Sounds painful Tom ! Same happened to my 2 mates but one of them ended up with a metal pin from his knee to his ankle for 12 months.

My chief "witness", my cycle mechanic told me about a customer who was doing 35 MPH when he hit the back of a parked car.
Bike total write off, car damaged externally and internally. Internally? Yup, the cyclist went through the rear window.
Undeterred the same cyclist went out on his other bike 4 days later, with his head bandaged up. Did the same again to another car. Still doesn't wear a crash helmet!
2 bikes total write offs within a week.

I heard a lot of funny and not so funny cycling tales while I was waiting to go into court.

Going on from my previous thread, I've had a great safety idea so thanks Braincell -
Instead of buying a new synth, I'll put an mp3 player and speakers on my bike. I can play some of my rejects (and uploads) and no cars will come within 200 metres of me.

If you can get someone to drive you around in a car with a sunroof, you can stand up and poke your head out to get the same sensation, but keep your eyes open for other vehicles so that if one gets too close you can quickly sit down and put on your seatbelt.

I just had a ridiculous idea... A motorcycle with a seatbelt and airbag.

the dude must have developed a sophisticated decelleration technique, respect

I often translate speed to free-fall height, since I'm used to it from climbing. It helps to stay real(istic) and better estimate the danger.
35 mph is approximately a jump from second floor - 60 mph is a free fall from 20 m

Not to spoil the party, but whatever jokes you perform in or on your vehicles - there's much more force behind this than shown on TV.

cheers, Tom
