To C.W. Frank
Uni-named cards may be fine - dunno - LUNA i/o is quite different from the rest. Also, I realy can not see a suiteable way to unify the bundled software more. WYGIWYPF = What You Get Is What You Pay For. Having unified names may cause new trouble with uninamed cards having different software packages.
Maybe give the cards software "points" acording to the number of DSPs? Points can be used to CHOOSE software packages. But then - there must be made a way to distinguish current PowerPulsar and Scope owners. And other trouble may come too.

Scope 4
Scope 6
Scope 15
I think this is an extremely bad idea in terms of marketing. why? the "geek" glow shines all around it. for us we know what 4, 6 and 15 will mean to our music. But when I was unknown with the system, it just tells me how many procs are on board and I still have to guess what this number will tell me.
I'm more in for something like this:
Scope Home
Scope Semi Pro
Scope Pro
Scope Pro +
It just tells you which card is suitable for your situation. Consumers look at a name in terms of what a product can do for them when they would buy this card. Straight to the source ! think about it

I agree with changing the names of all the cards to SCOPE (or maybe Pulsar?). It really is rather silly to have them be pretty much all the same product, just different I/Os and bundles, and have all those different names. It gets confusing.
It would probably be a good idea for customers to be able to pick the bundles they get with their purchase, as Immanuel said. For instance, Pulsar users might wish to choose MiniMax over Synth Package 1 & 2.
Luna users might want Mixer Package 1 instead of Vocodizer (why that's included with Luna, I can't guess). Scope users might want Six-String over Mod III. A "points" system is probably good. Of course, the usual bundles would be the default, but one should be able to customize their bundle package.
As an alternative, maybe a "Noah" bundle should be offered instead of the standard Pulsar packages -- MiniMax, Pro-One, Lightwave, etc., the best of the bunch. Then you can push SFP as a synth platform to appeal to the people who might otherwise buy the Pro-53.
There are lots of ideas floating around....

I still claim that the current pulsar 2 software package should be included with ALL cards.
then offer the "mix n' master" and "synths n' sampler" packs as addons.
3 or 4 dsp buyers WILL come back for more cards when they realize that they want to include more plugins, bigger mixers, more synths etc in their projects.
and when they (we..) enjoy some 6,7....20 dsp's i'm sure the addon packs will be the next leap.

it doesn't get any simpler than that.

... or ... people will be pissed, because they got so much software at hand, that they can not realy use to the max. They will feel cheated - feel, they where promissed this much functionality, but realizing that it just is not there. They will feel tricked. On 2004-02-05 20:32, siberiansun wrote:

The "truth" may be, that there are people following your prediction, and people following mine. But I don't think it should be neglegted. Those (few?), that will go by my prediction will likely make a lot of noise in the fora - not good adverticement, and a pain both to themselves and the rest of us.

I don't agree with you. If there was a clear statement about the fact (small amount of dsps) they wouldn't. The same way I could say that using a complicated mod2 patch I can get ONLY 3 voices in my 7dsp system. If anybody want to complain he will - I am in a similar situation ghaving a Logic Audio copy - mine is a simple Logic (previously called silver) with lots of cutted options - ok, never nind - but there is one thing that hurts (a bit) - the built in logic fx are all in the menu but I can use only a few of them - the rest is available but after trying to load I get a message "demo expired". I could use them for a month or so after the purchase but now I can't and even more - there is no way of getting rid of them from the menu! That's a cheater! All I want to say is if you had more SFP plugins in your folder than you could use (due to dsp resources) you could still remove them to an unused plugins folder and load them later, if you bought, say XTC board. That way they wouldn't cheat you all the timeThey will feel cheated - feel, they where promissed this much functionality, but realizing that it just is not there. They will feel tricked.

Embarrassing admission time. When i first bought my Pulsar2 card i also bought a PowerSampler card because i wanted sampling and i thought they were two different products
Didn't take me long to realise that i could run STS 3000 on either card and use an STDM cable to give me 9 DSP.
The moral? i'm for simplifying the product range - though i think Pulsar is a) a better name than SCOPE and b) the Pulsar name is more established in people's psyche (and how many times have you seen SFP written SPF!)

'k, my two cents...
whenever i talk to people interested in how i generate my sounds, i always refer to 'pulsar'. if they show some interest i go on about the workflow and what SFP is, and differences between luna, pulsar, xtc and scope boards.
however, i find 'scope' much nicer sounding than pulsar. scope makes me think about the cool radar (or is it a radio telescope?) logo and has a more 'open minded feeling' according my utmost subjective thoughts.
pulsar means to me, these light tiles you put in disco floors/ceilings (chroma lights) or some new breed of US long distance missile.
besides, pulsar has already been used by CW. lets bring in the new batch...
i liked the idea of custom package deals. i would have had mod3 much earlier, would have had minimax and vectron, vinco and optimaster. in the past i found the devices a bit too expensive for my budget (which doesn't mean they're not worth their price) and the package deals not tailored to my needs (and didn't want to go through the process of selling and registering).
or was this another thread???
i'm not really in favor of a unified soft package. each has his own needs.
neither do i think 3,6 or 15 as suffix would be confusing. on the contrary. 1,2,3,4,... would do too, i guess.
could be because i'm used to SFP on mac, but 'home', 'pro' ??? this sounds to me like marketing towards the pc world. but that, and OSX support, definetely is another thread.
all very personal though...
