I agree that overall the system is pretty intuitive if you just take a little time upfront to make sure you understand how things work.

I think where people get lost is in all the possibilities. There is so much flexibility, it almost works against the system for some people who are new to it or just want simplicity.

I love all the flexibility and I really think it is one of the things that makes the system so nice. I just think that some people get lost in it that are new to how the system works and give up before really giving it the time it needs.

I guess you could say XTC mode is an easy mode - maybe it is XTC mode that needs to be enhanced and further developed.

However, I was thinking more along the way Noah works with a fixed mixer and limited routing. You just plug in a synth or effect in a slot and it is ready to go, with nothing else to think about. Some people may prefer this simple approach over having all the possibilities and flexibilty.

My other point was that maybe a fixed architecture option could make things more stable and efficient - which would be my reason for using it.

Some great dicussion going on here. A couple of points that stick in my mind.

Einstein's theory of relativity is written such that a 12 year old can understand the language. Could a 12 year old set up a Creamware card and SFP by following the manual?

"You guys have never been inside a studio".

Probably true for many of us.

Also, Gary, do you tend to be on Z asking questions or answering them? I suspect you're one of the favourite answerers for a reason.

So back to the point. Will this help more newbies get on board? More newbies, more users, more developers, more toys. If it won't help, we shouldn't bother.

the reason that i can answer questions at all is because of the answers to questions that i have read here and in the manual(and a few other places).i certainly came in as a complete ignoramus. (i'm still kind of ignorant,i'm not a programmer)

an engineer must study a little.if you run the train, you're an engineer and you need to learn about that.

of course, the reason i like to see people's questions answered is because I'VE had that privilege.i don't want to keep things a dark secret.something that helps the newbies is a good thing.they do have to put SOME work into it themselves, still.

thanks for the kind words......

Good points........Creamware is probably more suited to the curious, looking for flexibility. It was designed for pro users. While everybody wants more, it is still immensely powerful.

Others have mentioned that a little more guidance early on would have been helpful.

What if we combine the ideas put forward by Bassdude, Hubird, Eliam, Huffcw etc Some FAQ, related mainly to finding info, links to info, an editor or two to oversee the process, and I'll suss out a few beginner projects for the "Doh" (me and my peers) fraternity?

Any comments?

I do like the idea of Mikka,It is an Excellent idea. A start up guide to newbies(from configuring OS's to setting up system specs to patching up usable Projects and known their way around sequencers,)I think we can help CW spend more time developing and fixing bugs then answering tons of little things on how this or that work.

I know most of the answers are listed in the forum aready but I love to them in one place so it does not add confusion for someone already frustrated with his own setup (or limited knowledge).

This way I am sure CW will be sending beginners here to see and read on how, the talented people on Planet, work to get their home studio set up properly.

Again this is a great idea MIKKA

Couple of things...if anybody has strong feelings against this, you better let Z know.

CW Frank once mentioned that what he really wanted people to do was to use the card and SFP the way it was intended, and often. With that in mind, lets try to keep this simple.

Any of us can set up some titles in "Pulsar Study". Perhaps include the words "Topic for Newbie Section"......eg "SFP installation...Topic for Newbie Section"

Under those titles, post material you feel is relevant. Once there is enough material, an editor can shape and pare each topic down to something useful.

How does that sound? Other ideas?

I've set up topics under "Pulsar Study. If you wish to add topics, please do. Contributions welcome and wanted.
