THAT's the point Dark - and that's what gets me on rage and even people who originally condemned the Iraqui war.

I will NEVER accept that these folks will have ANY influence on my life at all and NOT A SINGLE ONE running around burning flags is considered to have even the slightest political rights in my very humble opinion - it's the mob and nothing but the mob.
Astro, I know you're a good guy. But what you're saying is totally fucking patronizing to the rest of the world. You see, the rest of the world has to take it up the ass because of people in the west. Whether it's the USA's latest war, or simply the relentless march of globalist capitalism.

So to say that these people are scum for daring to affect your life is pretty damn condescending and shows that none of us appreciate the suffering that western capitalism causes.

Anyway, to get back to the cartoon theme:

darkrezin, explain me this:

and darkrezin, how do u say it is foolish to compare a 2000 year old buddah statue to a frigging cartoon?

I DO hope that you have noticed that the demonstrations against this episode has had a much bigger poøitical reason than any other.
Regarding the Egypt thing - I cannot comment, as I have not read any reports about this.

About the statues: you just don't get the point I'm making do you? It was a few Taliban extremists in Afghanistan destroying statues. The Taliban don't represent the whole of Islam, just like an abortion-doctor-killer does not represent the whole of Christianity.

well, it's not easy to express, but you probably got the 'reflective character' of my quote.
I can assure you that the very same person who commented the invasion of Iraq with '... any Iraqui is as human as we are, so wtf is there a need to start a war ? ...' had not the slightest comprehension for those cartoon riots '... who are they to tell (or even threaten) us ?...'

imho that's a completely different point and it has few if anything at all to do with so-called achievements of western civilization.

Mind you, the first thing those folks do when they get the chance to make 'their fortune' is to buy a Mercedes Benz - and they are proud of it.

There IS in fact a lot to critizize at a value-growth based economy (like we have it in germany), but first that's a different story and second it's the least concern of those 'poor ones' who want to make their way out of poverty.
If you ask around you'll find 90% would choose exactly THAT way if they get the opportunity (and/or choice).

When I made a trip through an Arabic country after highschool I felt generally welcome, frequently invited probably for just being 'exotic' - but there also were numerous(!) requests to be at help for someone to get a job in Germany.
Ok, that a few years back in time, but considering last years excesses at the Spanish/Maroc border the situation looks even enforced.

yet NOTHING of that is related to any prophet at all and I guess that even people who respect their religious tradition are quickly allowing an 'exception' if it's for their personal advantage. There are few to no moralists out there - except in those schools where they preach hate and try to play god.

I'm absolutely serious that I have not a single bit of tolerance in that context - I'd get them out of the country within not even one month.

We DO HAVE laws that declare it a crime what fundamentalism preaches, as we have laws against certain symbols of the German past.
I admit that in both cases they are not applied as they are supposed to...

cheers, Tom

Dark,
Isn't it odd how often your posts are filled with anger and foul words ? And how the "West" is always to blame. And yet you choose to live in London ?

It all reminds me of another joke:

Q) How many Palestinians does it take to change a light blub ?

A) None. It's better to sit in the dark and blame Israel.

Sorry Spirit, I don't agree with you at all, Darkrezin is an honest and also objective thinker, with a good feeling for international and all time being human aspects.
Wish my english was better to clarify myself, I leave it with these words
Cheers

you can watch stunningly similiar mother/child relationships in supermarkets, occasionally...
I'm not as optimistic as Stardust that it's all fake
anyway - a heartily slab on the cheek would clear the situation, spare some nerves and later on the cash for the psychiatrist (or even worse things to come...) - strangely this remedy seems completely outfashioned today

great Berlitz ad !

[pseudo rant]
I agree that it's outrageous.
Parents no longer have the ability to use a bit of a slap on the bottom as a disciplinary measure. In this country you can be charged with (suspected of) child abuse for that.

While I don't believe in using implements or pointy objects to discipline children, the adage "Spare the rod - spoil the child" - has some merit - just need to modify it slightly

Maybe something like - "spare a smack on the bum and say good-bye to your savings and hello behaviour modifying drugs and psychoanalyst fees.

I hate to use: "When I was a child..." - BUT... when I was a child  I'd definitely have too much respect for myself and, more to the point, apprehension knowing there would be some kind of punishment *WHACK* just around the corner.

Some might consider it a leap of logic or overly simplistic (read ignorant) to say that ADD/ADHD is related to the loss of parent's rights to properly discipline their children. However, the literal epidemic of ADD or ADHD in this country alone is quite frightening. Well - I mean - the willingness of medical practitioners to diagnose possibly poorly disciplined children with ADHD and the same eagerness of parents to stick their babies on "Kiddie Speed" is more frightening.

Newer research has shown that drugs like Ritalin and Dexamphetamine don't really work - well not as well as they work for young parents
I say "smack 'em and don't give them speed as a reward for lunatic behavioiur"

I enjoyed the gun control topic more than the child rearing topic.

News from Australia. While the number of guns dropped for a while after the gun buyback, it has now rebounded to well in excess of what it was before.

Maybe it's just human nature. We like the power to blow something away.

yes.
and while we're still on THIS hijack. i'd like to say that the problems are not from the "west", as there's really no such thing. the ones making trouble are not "east", "west" or otherwise. they are global. the leaders on all sides are on the same side, it's the people, the imperial subjects that suffer, do the fighting, argue the ideology given to them and die.
