A minimum Price for alcohol !!!

This has been all over the news here since last night

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/49932 ... cohol.html

I'm gonna cash in on my Local convinience store's '2 for 1' offer that's still in effect and later on enjoy Happy Hour at my local pub

Every movie that's been shown on Film4 since from when I can remember has been sponsored by an alcohol company of somekind, Stella, Gordons Gin, Bells Whiskey, Bayleys, etc, etc and I see acohol advertising everywhere

but it is a great and easy way to raise a little extra cash for the government, under the guise of health, without making it look like a tax. It could also be to curb peoples spending for some other ecoconomic reason that escapes me.
It's all very reminicent of Victorian mine owners who tried to get their work force to spend less money in the pubs and work more in the mines, while at the sametime deceminating the social culture of union around drinking houses.

Raise the prices whilst the economy is bleak to stop people turning to drink and gathering together.
While at the sametime encouraging drinking to prevent too much free thinking. Can't have a yob culture reputation, oh no!

But for those who can afford it.. there's no mention of the price of a good bottle of Chablis increasing
Free delivery on wine orders over £99 at Tesco !!!

I know they don't really give a sh*t about my health

Just to be clear, I'm not immobilized with some primordial fear of falling into the gaping maw of the 'drug laws'. I realize that I can script my fate to a large degree (I'm not solipsistic enough to think that I'm entirely the master of my own fate independent of everything around me though.) The art of the dreamer and the stalker...(to paraphrase Castaneda)

I've just been saddened to see people I once knew who had emotional problems only get worse when churned through 'the system'. I myself had my own brushes with "Jonny Law" and suffered injustices and so on, and of course walked away a free man the wiser for it. So it would be nice to think that the people I once knew (who I haven't seen in years and) who suffered their own encounters with 'the system' found the inner strength of will eventually to stand up tall & shrug off the yoke as much as possible, but I find myself balancing optimism with a somewhat jaded perspective borne from experience over the years. I could go into more detail if pressed...

it's amazing how many otherwise law abiding people, good neighbors and everything, have run afoul of the system, thanks to some sadistic "official" who doesn't understand what's so bad about a police state....

It's even funnier how those same folks when faced with breaking the laws they claim they uphold get caught, but always get off as " first offenders " because of a high priced attorney.
I wonder how many men and women Govenor Elliot Spitzer imprisoned on the same laws that he broke dozens of times ? He was even black listed from a Madame who said he roughed up a couple girls........
I will be attending a local " Tea Party " here in Las Vegas @ City Hall next week...
A friend talked me into it.
I wasn't going to do it, but when I saw how long it took for the group to obtain a permit for Peaceful protesting, I became infuriated and said " HELL YES. "
It won't change a thing, but it will make me feel better, as I have grown to dislike my Government very much over the years.
Nowhere in our consitution is it illegal to form an assembly.
The fact we have to ask for permission to keep our Government in check is a joke.
It's our duty as citizens.
If hundreds of thousands of citizens don't pay their taxes, what's the IRS going to do ????
Have that Tax cheat Geitner demand we pay him ???
I have a package for him below...............................

LOL!

"""
Ironically the Second Fusiliers were given the ceremonial guard duty in June as a reward for outstanding work in Afghanistan, battling the Taliban and stamping on the deadly drug trade.
"""

Actually, they use the soldiers to protect the fields. They rotate them after some time. Telling each new group they need to do "stake out" and "intelligence gathering" first before they'll destroy the fields and arrest the dealers ;)

actually, there's considerable history with the club popularly called "Skull and Bones", the British Crown and Afghanistan. the Russell Group, later known as Skull and Bones(aka the Order of Death Chapter 322 and the Russell Trust), ran the shipping company delivering opium to China for the Crown. the opium came from, you guessed it, Afghanistan. so ran the Chinese Opium War....
