I really had nothing against the Apple company until they did this, only Apple users, but again that is off the topic.
You really cannot blame Apple for this. You can only blame Emagic. This was not a hostile takeover. Emagic sold themselves to Apple, and were fully aware of any terms of the sale. Emagic chose, in agreeing to this deal, to cut off their Windows customers.
(Note, I'm a Windows Logic User, so I'm as bummed as the next guy).

The DIE has been cast. This was long in the making. A company that almost failed once can be very desperate. Any company that contributes in any significant way to the computer industry is now under threat. Windows would kill off apple very shortly. They claim to be working closely with Steinberg. Steinberg is Faithful to the Music PC industry. More stable than Emagic.

the only company that comes to my mind in that context is IBM.
All others buy from a handful of manufacturers on a small island south to China. There comes an earthquake to my mind or even worse circumstances... what is reliable in this world ?
But what's this Apple/Windows thing about ?
Proprietary hardware : yes, it is - designed and tuned for their OS, why complain ?
It definetely IS better.
Because of the design (see above) and on long term run - or is anybody out there to tell me I can use his PC from 1993 for a serious application, like music production ?
The Powermac next to me still can do it.
It was twice the price of it's PC brother when new, but it's usable 10 times longer. And I'm gonna install OS 9 (ok, dead now) in less than 15 minutes on it.
You see why Apple killed their original OS and switched to a more resource intense brand of unix ?
It's their business - and the only thing I'd accuse them for - but economical it makes sense.
Forget about this Apple is expensive bs - it's simply not the case - quality has it's price.
Ever opened a Powermac and had a look inside ? See it yourself next time in a shop.
Apple didn't buy that knowledge just for fun, I'm shure there will be some decent systems out with next generation mobos.
And wasn't it a common wish that the OS and hardware takes care of specific needs for a musician's or studio application ?
cheers, Tom
sorry, I wouldn't like to contribute to any OS war thing - the 'better' was used only for quality of long term usability.

There's a similar thread as this in the Emagic section of:
http://community.sonikmatter.com
Paul Martin says he's going to buy a Mac.
No Paul Martin! Don't give in to Apple's Evil Plan! You can use Logic 5 for years to come.

yes Braincell. Notice I didn't say WHEN I was going to get the MAC though.
I did mention that Logic has the capacity for endless learning and with v 5.2, multiple outputs in the EXS24 sampler will be possible and it will also read Gigasamples!!
But my move is not for september, far from it. I just have to keep the option open is all.
Positive thinking in troubled times. Why jump to all these hasty conclusions about switching to Cubase or Sonar? I'm comfortable with Logic and that's all that really matters.
As a person who runs a small business I have to keep an open mind. Maybe I won't have to get a MAC but if I must, what the heck? I'll have the luxury of having both platforms to work on and, as you all know, some programs are inexistent in Mac( and vice versa). Burners exist for the purpose of importing files. Maybe it takes time but, again, what the heck?
I don't want to get on the negative bandwagon a whole lot of people are fueling.
The Serenity Prayer tells me to accept the things I cannot change, to have the courage to change the things I can and to be able to know the difference. This last statement may give you a hint as to my way of thinking.
Peace
Paul

If I could fine-tune the logic on this Logic topic, I would say the reason so many people are heavily disappointed is that they invested in something that they thought would always be upgradable for free or a small charge. That's the beauty of software. But Logic Audio for Windows suddenly became, like hardware, fixed in time and never able to be improved. Just like my 3 year old computer, with a 550 MHz CPU that was fine for 16 bit recording but needs to be replaced for 24 bit CPU intensive modern studio needs. To buy a Logic software sequencer was an important decision to make, but apparently 60% of you Logic users don't have anything to really complain about, as you never supported the platform with your $ by buying the program. Sure you lost all those years trying to understand the logic in the manual. Just bite the bullet and buy Cubase SX, which will now be the premier music production platform for the pc.
I for one, never bought Cubase as I hated the complexity of working with it, the bugs and especially the dull and dead sound of the audio. I seriously looked into buying Sonar or Logic 2 months ago and then decided to wait to see what Cubase SX was all about. I found that the SX sound is so transparent I have to remix some projects, and the ease of use is a delight. The disapointment of Emagic dropping all their Logic pc users is softened by the fact that there is another alternative. We pulsarians should encourage the Steinberg team to get in bed with their German friends at Creamware and make the 2 softwares work as one seamless one.
On a similar note I can update my wonderful Vegas 3.0a audio multitrack recorder with it's easy to use rubberband volume, pan and effects, to the latest software update 3.0b but I won't be able to open any older projects! That means I have to keep 2 versions of Vegas Video on my computer, one for current projects and one for projects before July 2002. Don't rely on software to not let you down.

Ok, here's much discussion about platforms.
But now, what logic/pc users need is a solution.
(1.)
Keep working with logic/pc (maybe for one or two years, maybe longer)
(2.)
Buy an Apple (maybe now or in some years, when really new things were added to logic)
(3.)
Leave logic and change to another software (and, as in my case, to another midi-interface, another hardware-controller...)
I think, everybody has to decide for one of this solutions on his own - my decision will probably be (3.).
BUT for (3.) we should discuss some technical details which are IMHO neccesary for making the right move.
Details like this:
- the difference between logic and cubase SX ?
- are we able to do everything we did using logic with cubase SX too ?
- the timing using logic and unitor-midi-interface is perfect, will it be the same using cubase SX and steinbergs midi-interface
- i like my logic control, what about houston, is working with cubase SX/houston as effective as with logic/control, same hardware-quality
- is cubase XP running good (bug-free) and with similar performance
- is cubase XP working with SFP as good as logic
I think it would be very helpful, if we could answer all this questions (maybe someone could add more interesting questions here).

Actually SX is nice, I had the chance to do a smooth cross and so far enjoying it
SX seems to have all the stuff and more fully intact, whereas Emagic seemed to take forever getting even halfway near this.
so far im finding SX very fast .

Cubase SX probably is okay and I will probably buy it. I am a registered Cubase 5 user and the upgrade price seems good. I just wish I hadn't bought the Emagic AMT8.
I was going to buy the Steinberg MIDEX8 and the saleman talked me out of it. He was adamant that the AMT8 was better and Logic 5 was better than Cubase 5. "Look at the Midex, it's made of plastic!" he said. He said the timing is much better with the AMT8 and Logic combination and that the timing comparison on the Steinberg Website was a lie. I can't blame the salesman, but this whole thing is rotten. I have had to buy 3 midi interfaces in my life. The MOTU I bought a few months before Windows 95 came out. MOTU decided not to give me any more drivers (I would have bought them). Then I got an Opcode. They went bankrupt and there are no XP drivers for that so I had to get the AMT8 a couple months ago. I would trade it for a Stienberg MIDEX8 but something tells me there is going to be a glut of MIDEX8 devices on Ebay soon. These proprietary MIDI interfaces are another bullshit move by both emagic and steinberg. Yes I know they work on either platform but I bought it specifically for superior timing. I don't have a lot of money and I consider them to be expensive.

Heard a rumor from a guy steinberg's agency in sweden that steinberg might be dropping win support due to OSX development costs.
Logic never worked as good as on the mac, braincell. Logic (mac) has over 150 more functions as the PC version. also the audio engine starts bugging the pc after some heavier work. emagic never managed to port the mac version to pc well.
Subhuman: that laughin at u pc guys was only a bad joke. sorry. Another joke is steinbergs drop from pc
Macs are really cool! (coverted to mac 1 1/2 year ago)

Actually Cubase SX isn't bad. The upgrade price is cheap. If they would just make Emagic MIDI interfaces really tight with SX that would be a nice gesture but I don't know if that is possible.

Serenity Prayer: Accept the things I cannot change, to have the courage to change the things I can and to be able to know the difference.
What an attractive philosophy! One just have to decide that most things are out of reach. Such a comfortable way to tell oneself that resignation is good.

Sounds a bit like "submission is good".
On the other hand there's a version like that which says: "If at first you don't suceed, try, try and try again. And then give up. No use being a damn fool about things."
