winDOZE xp , how to wake it up??

If i use my pc evrything seems ok but if i say walk away for a wile, mabie half an hour or so, xp is very slow to respond, ie, open windows close very slowly , start bar is very slow to respond and most of all and most anoying is that SFP is very slow...its also very noticeable if i say use a program alot then go back to SFP (witch was left open) its amost dead!! any ideas??

Make sure hibernation is turned off, in > Control Panel > Power Options. Also, I only have my monitor turn off after 20 min., but the hard disks always stay on.
