Well, just like last time, here's the gossip thread to discuss any questions, or thoughts about the January contest.
First of all, I'd like to clarify that when submitting the contestant files, you submit an mp3 file in the music forum, and also the 2 patches plus txt description (zipped into one file) into the modular forum. So, you submit an mp3, and a zip. Both with the subject as SC-Jan-2003-tunename. This may still sound a bit unclear. Please tell me if you do not understand me fully. I'm worried about the non-English speaking people in particular.

As asked before, in the other thread, I was wondering if I could use already made patches of MI and II, cos I can't learn it for the contest itself, is it must?
Spirit, you said no prob? Is it allright tho?
Second question: Can we mix both MI and MII, let's say, choosing one module from one and the other from two?

I just changed the naming scheme like this:
In the Music forum:
Subject: Jan-2003-ModIII-My_torn_liver
File: Jan-2003-ModIII-My_torn_liver.mp3
In the Modular forum:
Subject: Jan-2003-ModIII-My_torn_liver
File: Jan-2003-ModIII-My_torn_liver.zip
containing 2 patches, any presets, and txt documentation.
So the format is Jan-2003-Mod version-tunename.
I hope this is a bit more clear now.
As for using pre-existing patches, I think it's ok. Of course, it is recommended that you try to build your own patches. Anyway, try to be creative.
As for mixing MI and MII or III modules... Please use only MI modules for the MI section of the contest, and only MII and III modules for the ModII+III portion of the contest. MIxing them would result in a new voting field. Right now, we only have 2 votes. One for ModI and one for ModII+III. I'd like to keep it at that. I'll wait and see how things turn out though. If too many people say that ModI is too limited, then we might change the rules. But for now, don't mix the modules.

Well, i mostly finish with wiring my 2 patches. I still creating a bunch of presets for the second one...
The first one is gonna be a drum machine, and the second one is 'kinda' my own try at replicating 'some' features of the vectron...
Going very well so far...
I'm enjoying Mod3 alot lately...I think planetz will benefit from alot of new patches with this contest btw...
Mod3 is much more powerfull than before imho. I love it! It sound SO much better than reaktor! But DAMN! Does it take DSP quickly when building complex patches!
How's your's Ken?

I don't think I'll be in it for this contest.. not sure. Depends on my mood the day before the deadline. har har
Anyway, we're seeing some action. I know atomic's doing something with audio triggered drums. And Spirit wants to slow down LFOs. Eliam wants smooth filters. Just to name a few. Anyone else? Any stories to tell? (mod patching is always quite dramatic)

Good report there Ken - putting together all the clues from other threads
I do enjoy putting together mod devices but I suffer from a terrible habit which makes t difficult to progress.... I'll put together a patch, think it's OK, start writing some presets, then think "I think I'll wire x to Y and put in an extra filter here". Suddenly all my presets are pretty well useless, so I start writing some more. Then I think "I'll just replace this oscillator..." You get the idea.
That's what's happening at the moment. I've got two versions of my "contest" patch and both keep evolving. And yes, they rely on slowing down LFOs which I'm finding easy, but messy. Any ideas on that are very welcome.
I also tend to switch between making a patch simple to "see" and program, or bulking it up with options, modulation possibilities and routings.
For drums I'll probably use my Strontium-90 patch with some new presets.
It's good to see other work going on too. I hope the fairly tough requirements about naming, links, and the size of the needed uploads (song + 2 patches) doesn't put people off...
Any other reports ?

Spirit.. I know what you mean by the preset vs patch evolving dilemma. Always happens. The process of making presets usually brings out new problems or things to improve on.. and then I have to make all the presets over again.. ahh.. such is life for a mod patcher. hehe.
Anyway, Herr Voigt and anyone else who don't know the deadline, it's 10th of January 2003. Mod1 entries are more than welcome. The rule details are in the announcements forum.

If you're on narrowband, and don't want to take too much time uploading, I guess "tune only" is ok. But I'd definitely want to see the winner's patches. Anyone want the naming and uploading rules to be changed by the way? (it's quite changable)
