DAW with video ?

I want to make some music for a given video.
The only DAW, which I own with video function seems to be old Samplitude X3.
Is there a better way to do it ?

All DAWs have a workflow for this, it used to be running something like my MTP A/V (Motu Midi Timepiece AV) with SMPTE code running to the VTR, so when you changed playhead position your 'tape' deck or etc would seek to and stay in sync with that timecode position. In the DAW era that came after, it was a similar workflow where you would import the movie in a correctly supported format, and it runs alongside the DAW in an open preview window.

In our era now, Ableton Live has native support for editing and remixing video (Max4Live components), people use Vegas for DAW usage (Vegas is a video editing app that inherited Acid 3/4 style workflows for the scoring portion of video work), Digital Performer (DP) and Nuendo are still king along with Sequioa (not Samp) for actual scoring work. But there are options in between at every price point.

What's your DAW of choice?

Currenty I prefer Bitwig, which doesn't seem to be the choice in that case.
I bought Ardour yesterday, which can load videos, but I have to dig into its workflow.
Ableton is only present in version 11, which doesn't seem to have video function yet.
You see, that names you gave, weren't on my list yet.

Ardour wouldn't be my first choice.

ChatGPT & etc can help you get up to speed quickly (or Claude etc with direct computer use if you want to have it run the UI directly). It's a very competent audio mixer, but you can use a workflow where you're simply blocking out sections to be filled from your preferred DAW (Bitwig), and just go back and forth as needed for what you can't do directly in Resolve quickly enough.

It's possible to sync them, but I wouldn't bother complicating things that much.
