Mixed cards gen 1 & gen 2

Post by fraz »

Hi,

As has been pointed out - Pulsar 1 has higher latency than Pulsar 2 - And as I've collected a number of used cards at some point it would be planned to build a system comprising

Pulsar 1 - balanced input / output XLR _ this is good no?
Pulsar 2 Z-Link - unbalanced
Pulsar 2 - unbalanced

This would be a mixed system - and it would be favoured to use XLR output for better "pro" levels

The two Pulsar 2's should be able to get the lower latency - but what if the Pulsar 1 XLR's were used for output?

Is it still possible to use this system at the lower latency of gen 2 cards - Are there any drawbacks here?

I got the Pulsar 1 because it wasn't too expensive and was available

Simple answer: it doesn‘t matter... :D
I never noticed any io problems with a Pulsar 1 in combination with a generation 2 card and lower ULLI settings.
The system just performs as expected.

Make the 2nd gen card the master, or alternatively ensure that the 1st gen card(s) is(are) not. Whichever comes first in the DSP meter used to indicate, I do not know if Scope 7 has been adjusted to do this automatically (it does a lot more than older versions do in terms of not needing to edit CSET.ini any longer for most things).

gen2 cards handle resources better, but all will work together just fine. the SC versions of Scope will use the newer cards as master.

That's what it seemed like, but wanted to verify before posting as such. Thanks.

Hi - OK - Best to use the newer cards as master - But still be able to use the XLR output on Pulsar 1 for the hotter signal - (route anything anywhere) - This would work wouldn't it - I hope so..... and if so, it gets round that problem easily -
