Asus Prime B460 Plus comments??

Post by bosone »

Hello!

I'm going to do a massive upgrade on my music production system.

Based on what I have read here, I will go for an Asus Prime b460 plus MoBo because it should support the Scope+pulsar2 I have.

I thought about this setup:

Intel Core i9-10900KF - LGA 1200, 3.70GHz, 10-Core
Ram DIMM DDR4 64GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo (4x16GB) 3200MHz CL16 1.35V XMP 2.0 [F4-3200C16Q-64GTZN]
Noctua NH-D15
be quiet! Dark Base 900 case
Sapphire Radeon R5 230 video card (already own it)

will it work?? :)

which latency should I will be able to use? down to 3msec (44.100) is too optimistic, with a relatively high load on CPU due to kontakt libraries??

I already have SSD with win10 installed and activated on my (old) Gigabyte MoBo. Will win10 seamlessly update into the new system without having to reinstall everything??

Kontakt using multiple instances eats a little more RAM but won’t put a dent in a 10 core 10700KF.
Should be fine.

Amazed so many old PCI cards are still kicking audio and have SC support.

i have just placed the order of the new beast.
asus prim b460+intel i9 10900KF+64 GB RAM.
hope everything will work!

my highest concern is to simply switch the win10 SDD from the old to the new machine, hoping in a flawless update!

Keep us informed.
I’ll be posting sometime tomorrow/next day about Scope and AMD B550 chipset.

I'd clone the old SSD to new and most likely faster SSD and keep the old one as backup in case something goes wrong.

already did it! :)
I upgraded the old ssd to a faster one after a failure of another ssd in another PC! :D
... and make a backup clone now, before the switch to the new pc.

the new beast should arrive on the next week! :)

Watching your posts closely
It is likely I will build a new system some time soon to bring a new PC into line with win 11
Thanks for the updates

Beware of NewEgg.
I’m on the 2nd AMD CPU and 3rd X570 motherboard.

It’s been back & forth like this for 7 weeks.
I even had to send a Microwave back to Amazon.

Trump really pissed off China I guess…. :D

Everything is having QA issues right now tbh.

What's the issue with the cpu's & mobos, usb disconnect problem or something new?

for now the system is booting with the old win10 SDD installation, so i didn't have to reinstall anything, just update the drivers.
I have still not mounted the scope boards.
will keep you informed as I proceed!

Scope card are flawlessly installed. I can load 11 masterverbs before DSP overload.
Now I have to test the DAW, check the latency, power, etc...

11? Are you using two Scope cards by chance?
I got just 9 Masterverb and get power DSP limit with the 10th in empty project.

Anyway I'm just happy because with previous motherboard since 2013 (MSI B75A-G43) I was getting only 6 masterverb before PCI overflow warning...
and happy for having almost doubled the power available for VST plugins compared to i7 3770K.
However I'm probably not using this new mobo at its best because not all the official Asus drivers for this motheboard install on Win7,
the executables are just for Win10, so it got drivers from the net. I just mounted the Win7Pro SSD I was using.
Will upgrade to Win10 PRO soon however.

CPU Intel i9 10900K 3,7 GHz with Noctua NH-D15
64 GB RAM
Windows 7 PRO 64 bit
Scope v5.1
1 Scope Pulsar 2 (6 DSPs) at 44.1 kHz
GPU still my Asus Radeon HD7850

yes, i have 2 cards, scope + pulsar 2
i am in the same situation, with my old gigabyte MoBo I could load maybe 5 masterverbs.
Now i look forward to test the new PC with my DAW. I also recently entered IK Multemedia Group Buy, so i want to stress the system with Modo Bass, modo Drums, Amplitube, effects and several Native Instruments VSTi.
for now I have set the minimum latency in scope, let's see if it works! :)

I upgraded to win10 in spring 2020 (during the lockdown in italy) and I must say it was a wise move...

Sorry for not posting any music track.
I made a test at 3ms latency

I used
Modo bass, modo drums, kontakt noir, pharlight, mallet flux, a guitar track with amplitube
IKM Mixbus and tape machine 440 as track FX.

The system had absolutely no problems,CPU load does not even reached 20% on cakealk, I think

I suppose the system is ok... Way over my expectations

hmm ma sei italiano anche tu? :D
Ok thanks, I guessed it was two cards.
I have noticed a little issue, not so bad but a bit annoying: with this new mobo when I launch Cubase (v10.5) listening on headphones through headphones amplifier there is humming noise in background (in ita: ronzio) that I have to undesrtand hot to fix.
I didn't have it on MSI mobo... but I remember to have a ground wire from the case or PSU attached to a corner of the mobo...
I don't hear the humming in background when Cubase is closed... using Winamp for example it stays completely silent.
Could be a problem with Graphic card drivers... because sometimes in Cubase opening or moving a window can make disappear or appear the humming noise. I will try to reinstall the drivers.

Have someone noticed something like that?

I’ll find out what the new CPU/Mobo does this coming week.

But a bad or damaged CPU won’t allow the mobo to post or get into the BIOS.

Should’ve let GaryB do everything….

Thanks, Yes, it is that. Not GPU drivers issue.
I solved it anyway: just unplugged the headphone amplifier cord from the APC UPS and put into the power strip of the audio speakers: the humming went totally silent... so silent that I even doubted the amplifier was turned on.
The strange thing is that with the previous mobo and case I haden't this loud humming noise.
Today I put back the headphone amplifier into a different socket of the UPS and the humming was so low in volume that was almost inaudible and acceptable. So wondering... I put the plug back in the socket it was for the last three years: yes, humming again but very very low and acceptable.... and not that disturbing level of the previous days.
This is weird.
