John Bowen / Zarg Music With V7 64bit

Post by shayart » Tue Dec 12, 2017 2:34 pm

Xite 1 V7 64bit

I noticed there is problems in the Zarg Synthesizers in scope 7....

Many of the Presets crashes the sistem!! :(
especially SOLARIS v5 and Quantum Wave....
Someone else dug the subject in depth ??

I'll be happy to know.....

I understand that John Bowen Not updated yet the Synthesizers for V7...
I hope This will happen soon... :)

It is the most powerful instrument in the system :D

Note that John Bowen synths were never designed / tested on XITE - only PCI. Also depends on whether they are different issues from those that occurred on 5.1 or not. You have to be specific. eg screen shots or about whether the presets your loading include samples or not, your sample rate and whether you start each preset on polyphony of 1 before increasing.

Theres some work arounds here http://www.hitfoundry.com/issue_26/sol_mast.htm

Hein Eken - LOL !

I imagine John's statements about limited interconnections in XITE would still be the case. That's at a hardware level & not changeable by a new Scope version.

Maybe,- but I always wondered how he developed these big synths (Solaris, Quantum Wave, Rotor EX) w/ a low version SCOPE SDK running on a PCI card less powerfull than XITE-1D and XITE-1 and didn´t recognize issues before release long time ago.
The big Zarg synths don´t run MUCH better on PCI compared to XITE.

I don´t believe we have less interconnectivity on XITE than on a 14/15 DSP card... in theory ...
Since I´ve read, DSP distribution might be or is optimized in SCOPE v7, I have hope for fixes and won´t give up.
On a 14/15 DSP card using old 66MHz chips,- all-in-all about 1GHz,- large devices have to span across more DSP chips than in XITE.
The same device should run on 3 of the XITE´s 333MHz DSPs w/ ease,- and that´s what one can find in only one DSP-slot on XITE-1.
So it only might be a matter of how interconnectivity is organized for XITE optimized devices.
I imagine there´s some dependency existing between SCOPE developement status and plugin (.dev / .mdl) developement status, so updates should be normal once there is a new SCOPE version released.

You could always just buy hardware Solaris and get busy playing instead of BSOD’ing yourself into depression. :D

Hello Everyone,

I’m not able to recall the exact issues regarding the way XITE handles the communications busses, and I don’t yet know if Scope 7 has any way of working around the problems. Let’s see what Holger has to say.

I really do appreciate the interest everyone has shown in my Scope plug-ins....thank you for all the nice comments!

I’m on Xite win xp 32bit.

Solaris works ok for me. Just browse presets at 1 voice and then up the voices once patch has been chosen. Very few patches can not go above 1 voice.

What can be fixed though John, for Xite, as proved by sb404 being fixed. Is the step sequencer element. As yet the step sequencer part of the synth does not work (on Xite).

Solaris on v7 works much better than with Scope 5.1, for me. Not a single crash !

I didn't had any trouble by trying a lot of presets with 2 voices. But Solaris working well with.... Let's say, 5 or 6 voices would be awesome ! :D

for me ( Xite 1D, win 7 x64)
the problems are the wav osc on Pro wave & solaris 5,
which causes BSOD as soon as midi is played ,( faxi's STS fix doesn't work )
and the SEQ bug.

It's a shame as John's synths are my favorites on the Scope platform

Faxi does not have Xite. It’s a shame really. As a 3rd party developer I think he really should!

But... As far as I understand, the next Scope update should fix the wav players modules issue on 64bits systems, no ?
Indeed, I didn't tried any Solaris preset containing wav oscillator. Wav player modules are really missing !

Apparently it would be a Scope problem, not a plugin developers problem. So the best is to wait for Scope 7.1...

to clarify..
Faxi's STS fix does work on xite x64 with the STS plugs, I tested it for him,
but using looped samples within the Zarg wav OSC still causes BSOD

Ah.

Good.

It’s the seq bug that does my nut in.

Bit more digging and it’s the async atom/dsp module that’s the issue.

That´s a plan for sure ... but I wait until John realized one of the expander versions being disussed here http://forums.johnbowen.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16572 ...
Since John himself opened the thread, I don´t think it was meant as a joke.

I´d favourize a 2HU unit w/ some buttons & keypad, some OLED display and remote controllable by a SCOPE device as well as a VST plugin, both acting as editor/userUI.
Use alternately in DAW host,- or SCOPE environment when gigging.
I wonder if it would be possible using XITE´s XTDM-bus for communication w/ a Solaris-expander,- which should use such connection too then.

Up to now, hardware Solaris, even it´s a brilliant synthesizer, sucks MIDI wise when it comes to be a keyboard controller instrument.
The MIDI implementation isn´t complete at all.
I don´t need more keyboards anyway and own the Kurzweil PC361 which is a VERY nice MIDI controller, has the Fatar TP9S semi-weighted synth action, lots of programmable buttons and sliders, enough pedal connectors and a 3-zone ribbon controller as well,- which makes it a great controller also for a Solaris expander.

I´d buy it now when available.

IMO, for a polyphonic device of that caliber, every patch should go far above 1 voice.
Ideally at least 10 voices like hardware Solaris ...
Maybe some 3rd row "features" can be sacrificed to get that fat sound w/ more polyphony always ?

Well, the same "for me" in 2 posts above ...
It might be a bit harsh, but what works for you doesn´t mean it works as it should.
When developers read "works for me" often enough, they might think everything is o.k.,- but it isn´t.

Well, 2 voices are better than 1, but that´s duophonic at best and unacceptable for a polyphonic synth IMO.

Don´t forget, when using longer release times, the trouble begins already w/ synths working flawlessly with, let´s say,- 5 voices ...
With polyphonic synths, you always need some voices in background to be assigned in rotate mode avoiding decaying notes to be cut abruptly.

+1

I´d wish every 3rd party developer had one.
There were good deals, SCOPE v7 and SDK v7 included ...
Maybe that will be extended,- until now it didn´t disappear from S|C website.

I doubt bug fixing the platform automatically fixes 3rd-party plugins/devices.

- will you be the one buying me one then?
- the sts fix works on xite, just has nothing to do with bowen synths

I wish I could buy you one, and another for me!

I don't think Liquid Edge was saying you should/must buy one, but that he thinks you greatly deserve one! And maybe SC should reward you for the incredible work you have been doing!

And I do mean INCREDIBLE Faxinadu!!

Thank you,
Cory
