Re: FS: Korg DSS1 - 8 voice sampler-sinth with analog filer
the kit is £230
this gives you the new 24mb memory board and all parts for fitting this includes sip sockets for the replacement of ram chips a 6 way mfc connector and a 6 way mfc ribbon
then theres the digital board processor kit this is a usb and processor board with the mfc cable and all the dip sockets for fitting
there are 2 additional parts and sockets not part of the original kit but was decided that on some revisions that the ttl chips did not have pull up resistors and would glitch with the new cmos types so that 2 chips which are 74ls138 need to be changed to 74hc138
there is also a new dual cliff socket that you can fit on the back so that you dont have to change the original floppy drive these are made by cliff i provide a punch that you have to return for punching the hole and 2 extra internal usb cables that fit the 2 usb sockets on the cpu board
this is extra costing £8 for the cliff socket and 2x£5 for the 2 cables
and the other upgrade is a oled 20x2 display this is a very good upgrade and it does away with the angle control and the el foil transformer its also an easier install as you just dont fit the cables to the angle board and dont connect pin 3 on the display this stops the noisy transformer that can whine
as the led version requires De-soldering the transformer and adding a current reducing resistor and other angle mods which take longer
then there is the noise in the outputs mod this is relatively easy you have to reroute all the audio cables away from the main cable bulk which they are tie rapped to and direct them and tie rap them to the pillars of the button boards so that they are in the middle of the top panel and then fitting 3 ferrite clip on beads £3 each
there is a lot of De-soldering work and you have to be really careful as there are 2 chips that need De-soldering and keeping as one fits the cpu board thats the floppy controller chip and the other special chip which needs to go back in its location after a trace has been cut under the chip
then there is the button upgrade for new burrandbrown momentary switches this is £25 this makes using the dss1 like new
and it really changes the machine loading wave files is great and upto 4mb multisounds i have many 2400khz samples which give 10 seconds per sample that are like a long tape loop that have been recorded via a nice tube pre to tape then from tape to pc and saved as wave you then can cut the samples up in an editor and load them into the dss1-x

Re: FS: Korg DSS1 - 8 voice sampler-sinth with analog filer
The DSS-1 with the upgrade is really, and whole new synth. No need for floppies, and a USB thumb drive serves to hold your complete sound library! It also allows for using WAV files, rather than specialized sysex dumps and such. Basically, aside from the much larger memory space for loading much larger multi-sample sets, it allows the synth to be used with current computers and sound sources.
There are no modern synths that can compare. The synth/sampler can go from gritty to creamy, or be both at once. 8 voices of analog filters and VCAs combined with digital samplers is great.
