Open source NRS

Post by sovietpop »

Hi,

I am a proud owner of a Creamware Noah and i am also a software developer (mostly JAVA).
I was thinking about Reverse engineering the usb protocol from the Noah and make an editor for Ipad or and OSX/Unix (just like someone did with the Nord Modular editor).
I do have some experience with Objective c and programming in general (my job) but i never had the opportunity to do that kind of project.

I was looking for more information about the Noah like midi sysex implementation (nothing in the manual) or any other technical information that could help.

Thanks for any advice.

Ps : BTW , if you have an Ipad and Lemur(or any other midi control app) + camera connection kit, you can plug the Noah directly into the Ipad via usb and control the Noah with midi CC using Lemur. The cool thing is you are not using any midi ports on the Noah and there is midi feedback so when you change patch on the Noah , every parameters are sent. Audio is working too so you can sequence and record the audio directly into the Ipad for example. you can also process the audio of the ipad (via usb) directly on the Noah.

Have a nice day.

Jean.

I do not know if there is any Sysex used with the NOAH.
Most parameters are CC or Pat mapped for all the plugs (except for the EDS-8i  ).

So the only other stuff that would deserve some more messages are messages used to load one plug or the other and to load presets. Is that what you are looking for ?

I have a NOAH Ex and an ipad here but my intention was more to use an Alesis IO Dock for such purpose.
Anyway, in case you need some help or test, just ask ...

I am having the lemur on iPad, and love it.

From the NOAH technical reference document MIDI Implementation Chart, there seem to have NO sysex on the MIDI port.
So maybe only located on the USB-MIDI ...
