in fact, the PCIe interface connector on the XITE box looks just like the DVI connector used for the 4 slot cheapo PCIe to PCI expansion mentioned here in the forum. the card isn't really more than a PCIe-to-PCI bridge, and the whole box is 200 EUR. so the host cards shouldn't be that expensive...

Ok. Ralf's confirmation:

Hello,

the Scope XITE-1 will come with the I/O-options as follows :

*Front Connectors:
Headphones, 2 x MIC (switchable phantom power), 2 x Hi-Z instrument input
*Rear Connectors:
Analog In/Out balanced XLR (2 channels), 1 x AES/EBU interface,
2 x ADAT In/Out (16 channels), 2 x Z-Link In/Out (16 channels),
MIDI In/Out/Thru,Wordclock In/Out, PCIe, XTDM

The product contents will contain an adapter for the notebook expresscard interface OR an adapter for the PCI Express1-interface of a PC.

He also stated that there will be no cost difference but that one must choose if you want to connect to PC or notebook.

I second that. In my studio we'll be mainly using Xite with a Mac Pro, but at some point we'll want to take it on the road and use it with a laptop. We're gonna need the ExpressCard interface at some point....

Why not? it is so now on common Scope boards, I imagine that will be the case...

i need to change my sample_setting (spdif -adat) everytime while recording.
is that something to do with master clock? if so, does xite has master clock build in?
thanks

it's the same. both have a master clock internally.

when using adat AND sp/dif, you need 1 master and 2 slaves, and that can be done between with the settings on each device. in what ever combination you can have 2 slaves and a master is good and will not need to be reset.

That would be extremely nice - I prefer 3xAES D-SUB/25 supporting 192KHz singlewire - that would be awesome.

Without going into the argument of whether 192kHz is 'better', wouldn't that be either unnecessary or impracticable?

I mean, SFP has always had a maximum operable sample rate of 92kHz (even the internal upsampling of some synths and effects when running at, say 44.1 or 48kHz 'only' goes up to 92kHz). Wouldn't that render 192kHz IO a bit pointless, given that you'd have to upsample after doing any Scope processing, and downsample anything external that you wanted to process in Scope?

Im not using above 96KHz when doing music - Im only using 192KHz or above for development.

The Scope DP was stated to support 384KHz when released - but unfortunately that never materialized.

@Warp, do you know if 88.2 will be implemented? I've had a few projects passed to me from ProFools being forced into lots of file conversions was a bit of a pain. :(

@Ralf, When you get a chance, can you ask the developers about whether there is any reason why in a "self-assembled" rig, OSX (or at least the OSX version of SFP) wouldn't see or be able to use the current-gen PCI cards? (i.e. on a hackintosh that has a mobo with PCI slots) I totally understand that it'd not be supported, but anything I can do to get away from Windows would be amazing. I'm definitely going to buy an X-CITE at some point, but it won't be for a while.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

Sorry Sam, dont have that kind of information. But I cant see why it shouldn't be implemented in future updates - thats my hopres regarding 192KHz (or even 384KHz :) )

Cheers

192 would be sweet, but I'd likely never use it except just to see how it sounds.

afaik the acoustic 'sweet spot' regarding the elimination of alising artifacts is somewhere in the 64khz (or was it 76 ?) range.
Anything beyond that point doesn't contribute to the aural experience, but may increase convenience as no further samplerate conversion will be required.

For that reason I'd expect the majority of users will switch to 96k on a Xite - I've heard the hardware Solaris with that rate and it really did sound sweet and more transparent than the software version (imho).
Who's working on movie (DVD) stuff will probably use 192 for simplicity, if the resources are available.

cheers, Tom

The only thing that really changes after 96k is the generell transient response of the converter.Thats a big plus on dxd actually. But ..the hd space and the other power demands are heavy. And the editing software like pyramix is around 3k$.
Its good but its expensive.

Why not slave to another machine at 88.2kHz? I think alfonso slaves to his Apogee Minime for that... Way better than sample rate conversions eh!

Have any sample rate specs for Xite been published?

AES / EBU, ADAT w/ SMUX via A16U, and Z-Link will be cool @ 96KHz.

I would like to have more information on driver compatability. Just in case 64bit is a hassle.

For instance will XP64 and Vista be an option? Can PCI-e work w/ 32bit XP?

I surely hope they still have GSIF 1.7 or I will be selling XITE-1 as fast as I purchase it. :(

That would be a crappy way to start the summer.............................Sell all of my cards, transfer the keys, sell 2 DAW's, then have to buy 3 x new 15DSP cards @ 32bit PCI..$*%^($*%$#%**....................yikes.

That would surely be my demise.

But I seem to have a reputation for falling in the toilet, and coming out smelling like a Rose. :D
