How do you do? I've been for a beer this evening. Main reason for my outgoing: I wanted my mobile phone back. It got lost on a wild party, today it was time to get connected. I've been on an island for 2 weeks, and had all the time to finish off the studio.
Guess I'm a little tipsy now. I hadn't gone out the front door for 5 days. My job's done now, for a while. I've come to a *complete* functional setup, with full use of all this 'complicated' gear (for a standalone, self educated home musician like me ])

I've been experimenting a lot, untill I felt comfortable with the devices. I've always made it way too complicated, now time had come to reverse. With all (!?) the knowledge I've collected so far. Now my setup runs better than ever.

This project is probably my definite choise for template. It is now mostly remote controlled.

Geez, I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of this.
  1. I reversed it: I now tried to make easy what I always made so difficult. Why did I make it so complicated? To get to know every last bit. We have more than enough soundsources and fx. So now I made it a real simple setup, although there's some gear involved...
  2. I unplugged every cable and setup the material. Then I put all hardware connections, so that, primarily, audio cables are isolated. I grouped power chords and screen cables in a special housing. The spaghetti behind our desks has reduced drastically. Also the noise on my PulsarMixer's Master Out has decreased from -40dB to -65dB. That noise is fine to me, for 7 stereo analog ins, ungated!
  3. I used same lenght midi cables to every instrument, for 'identical cable latency' on the output from the sequencer.
  4. Every instrument has a pc editor, along the cubase controls, mainly for backup and machine state saving. There's even Bank/Program list export tools to Cubase, so that in cubase it's always clear which user patch we're assigning to the synths/samplers.
  5. PC1 has AMT8 (yes will be Midex soon but it suddenly seems to work again) on serial to Cubase, sequencer and clk master.
  6. PC2:Reason on ASIO2, sequenced/controlled via Pulsar from AMT.
  7. 2 Pc1600x', one for VST and one for Pulsar Projects. Cubase Transport is on the keyboards controlled too, for easy remote control.
  8. S5000 8ST on ADAT to Pulsar, which is in turn sampled via SP/DIF.
  9. Triton has 3 stereo outs to LunaBox. And we just found that it's inputs are not only for sampling, but can also be routed and demolished in the fx :-] of the sampler. So we gave it another bus on the LunaBox.
  10. MS2000 sits two-way on the LunaBox, so that it's built-in vocoder can be modulated:-]
  11. MC-505, turntables and a microphone on Pulsar's Analog In's.
  12. All on 14DSP, one PulsarMixer. With only 20% dsp usage, plenty of space to freak on your fx *sweet*. And sweet is how it runs too.
  13. Oh yeah don't forget to make some presets in your Pulsar devices, so you can easily pick examples that fit you while you're play'ing. I made some for the Aux Rack, and it's very convenient to change Aux/save DSP.
  14. Is now when it should start making music? I've been wathing it for over 2 hours, nothing happens though.

I thought I'd let you know.

Oh yeah, I have 14DSP: 2 Pulsar1's and a Pulsar2 with Z-Link. Although this project uses only 4DSP, it's my template. Unlikely many of you wil have same hardware IO's available. But the screenshot may give you a better idea then.

Or you could just load it, delete everything but the PulsarMixer and use it's Midi Remote

Hi Atomic!

I loaded your project and Pulsar went Ka-BOOM!

I got a runtime error, abnormal program termination and Windows froze...

paulrmartin - you have dual monitors and running v3.01? If you dont have dual monitors maybe that is the problem...

Thanks, Subhuman. Now I get the reason why the screenshot is so wide.

Atomic, is there a way to fix it so it works for us poor people with only one monitor?

hi paul,

Of course, no prob, I'll redo it. Tomorrow, I have to get up early for work so I won't make it now :') I'll remove some of the non-standard I/O's too, they'll give pop-ups. You could replace the ADAT (from my sampler) by an STS version.

I also did some midi assignment on the PulsarMixer in the Project:
-all volumes and pans for 24 channels,
-most knobs/buttons on the mixer master section.

I no longer assigned 4 Aux Sends on my Pc1600x (as I programmed it too), but I now use these 4 (newly freed) faders for random things I wanna control on that channel. So roughly CC#02->CC#54 incl. are already pre-assigned, the other CC#'s are up to your choise.

Check GM preserved CC#'s, don't use them to control your devices: CC#00, 01, 06, 32, 38, (.?.) and CC#120-127.

atomic.
