Hi Folks,
I am considering purchasing the Pulsar 2 with 6 DSP Chips and would like to find out if there are any compatibility issues on WinXP Sp2
Also whats the cheapest entry system for somone like me? I would love to add a 14 chip booster at some point .
Thanks
MOTU 24I/O and PCI 424 with Pulsar II
Hi and welcome to planetZ
Scope and Windows XP SP2 works like a charm for me, one of the stablest configurations i've ever had!
I think the 6 DSP is a good starting point. but speaking for myself, i had better started with a 15 dsp card, cause i do the hole recording, mixing and mastering stuff in one project. and this is definitively a dsp hungry configuration. nevertheless, if you'll become a dsp addict like most of us here, you are able to ugrade with 2 additional srb's or scope pro's at any time...
cheapest way is of course the scope home (3dsp's, formally known as LunaII). But i would never start with this config, unless you use it only as an I/O-System...

Scope has no problems with WinXP itself. The only issues are compatibility with recent non-Intel hardware. The nVidia nForce4 chipset for AMD's Athlon CPUs seems to have PCI bandwidth issues, and the AMD Athlon x2 Dual-Core CPUs have been giving some of us audio performance problems. So only the older nForce3 chipset and Athlon 64 Single-Core CPUs work with Scope.
However, all Intel products seem to be 100% compatible with Scope, including all the latest chipsets and dual-core CPUs. (Intel has always been Scope-friendly.) GaryB here builds Intel-based systems and reports that there are no problems.
If you have an Intel system, everything should work great. If you don't, tell us what hardware you have and we'll be able to help you further.
Happy music making,
Shayne

PCI-424 and MOTU 24 i/o
Thanks for the prompt replies,
I am using a Motu 24i/o and would like to continue using it. It uses a PCI-424 interface
Anyone using a MOTU 24i/o and a Pulsar 2/1 ?
Thanks again

Hey Folks,
Back again, the more i read the more i think i wont actually be able to use the Pulsar 2 and the Motu at the same time.
I find this very confusing. I hope somone can clear up this very soon.
I wonder if it would make much sense to stick a pulsar 2 into a 2U rack
such as
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VIGLEN-SERVER-2U- ... dZViewItem
then somehow use it as instrument ?
.
Thanks peeps.

the motu quality is not so high (it's still plenty good, it's just not so good as to be precious). just get an a16(for an improvement in quality) or a couple of behringer ada8000s(for the same quality plus 16 mic pres!) and use the scope i/o.
there are currently some great deals on a card and a16 from creamware. send me a private message if you're interested.
