Hello,

Has anyone done this? I want to hook up my Creamware PC synthesizers to another machine that has firewire interface with SPDIF and ADAT 8 channel input. I don't know much about SPDIF and ADAT but would it work with my Scope project card? Should I go SPDIF or ADAT? What cables do I need? Anyway, I'm planing on getting the firewire interface today (either a Tascam FW1804 or Yamaha i88x) and I wonder if this would work. Actually, I was wondering if I could have my Creamware soundcard in the same machine but still connect to firewire digital inputs. Anyone?

i use such a setup daily... RME multiface with a laptop, connected through ADAT and midi with scope on a desktop. like this, the creamware synths/fx act just as hardware...

Man machine,

ADAT link for audio
Midi for the midi.
Make sure you have a midi in and out on the second machine.

I just wanna trigger the synths so just MIDI in would be necessary I think. With the ADAT connections I was wondering if there's any gotchas like sample rates and stuff...

Not much to look out after, just make sure both sides are set to same sample rate. You might also have to mess around with master/slave settings if you get glitches. The rule of thumb with ADAT is usually the "emitter"/recording device should be the master, but with a 2 cards/2 computers setup, you shouldn't have too much problems. If whatever master/slave setting you use causes glitches, reverse the roles.

Only other thing to lookout is that rebooting a computer with ADAT connections tend to make some pretty nasty noises =P. So just make sure you watch your sound levels when rebooting either machine.

if you got some extra cash, might be worth getting a sync plate and hooking everything up with bnc...
