Living up the Techincs WSA1

Post by ehasting »

Okay.. it might sound weird.. but in 94 (i think), Techincs released their first and only synth.
It costed a fortune, and was rompler based.. but it had some amazing features.. like acoustic simulation through resonators. And each patch could consist of 4 "oscillators", with different resonator, filter and envelopes.. a real digital beast..

this was the first synth i ever got.. and i happend when i was 15 years old:)

The synth is very cool to program, and has endless of possebility. .but it will always sound digital and cold.. due to its filter.. and the nature of the rompler technology used. So lately i havent used it much.. mostly for master claviature due to the fact that the semi-weighted keys are rather nice :).

but after getting the modular mixer and the spaceF blackBox 2.. this synth has a real life again!!

The patch linked in her is showing dry, then wet mix.

I am having a SC-RMX160 and Echo35 in aux send. on the insert i am using a spaceF midifilter2, with lfo modulation.
The patch is a typical evolving pad i made 5 years ago.. but it have never sounded this good in my ears :).

I was investigating this synth some days ago :)

I think some beautiful digital synths were made in that time. Things like the Kawai K5000:

The Ensoniq Fizmo:

The Yamaha EX-5R:

The Yamaha FS1R (which have in my studio):

Those synths were not trying to be analogue.

Hey!

The K5000 is not been in my hands yet.. but its very tempting to get one!!

I owned the FS1r for years.. also programming it my self.. which was great fun! But i sold it due to lack of brain cells which happens when i lost my wife!! wtf.. was i thinking?!?!

the The Yamaha EX-5R is also on my wish list.. but right now i dont have time and space for synths.. hopefully i will get more space when i move.

And let's not forget the Korg Wavestation:

I also create sounds for the FS1R, It's not easy but the results are great. I also have connected a MIDI controller to it and you can make very big sound changes by just turning some knobs. It can change a EPiano sound into a dark inharmonic soundscape. I also have found a program that can load a wav file and convert it into a formant sequence (FSeq). When you load it into the FS1R it tries to recreate the sample using its soundengine. It sounds very unnatural, mechanical, robotic and artificial, just the way I like it :)
