The following poll is created at the Pulsar/Scope List Serve:
_________________________

We are all too familiar with problems
with creamware's copy protection
scheme, and waning relations with, and
development by, third parties. It
seems that these issues are not being
properly dealt with, nor publicly
addressed by Creamware.

Considering these issues with the SCOPE-
compatible platform, what is your
response to the following?

"I would support a ban of Creamware
(software) devices until they create
(1) a positive relationship which
encourages and protects third party
development.
(2) a copy protection scheme which
which allows currently owned software
to be used on newly purchased SCOPE
hardware (in other words, a transfering
mechanism such that devices do not need
to be purchased more than once).

This proposed ban would not apply to
third party devices, nor would this ban
apply to Creamware hardware, because
neither of these categories are
relevant to the issues in contention."

o I would not support, nor participate in such a ban.
o I would support such a ban.
o I support such a ban already; I have not bought new devices because of
current Creamware policies regarding aforementioned matters.

hmm, I have a question about #2: Since the hardware and the softdevices are listed separately on the creamware-folder I always thought that you can specify the board and then compile the .oxe for this? Since I have only one board I did not check this. Is it really not possible? I cannot believe this! this would be very much !§%&!!
Happy pusaring!

Micha - "I always thought that you can specify the board and then compile the .oxe for this?"

yes, at the time of purchase you specify the board and get an .oxe - that's it. one time only. your board dies or you upgrade boards, your software goes down with it. not too cool, huh? some people on the yahoo group have bought the same piece of software more than once. they are either rich, crazy, stupid, or all of the above.

something needs to be done about this.
it is absurd and hurts the platform

algorythm- had a more sharp look at the page. You're right! Has no option to change hardware. That is really weird! What if a thunderstorm crashes the voltage? Then all my software is gone with the hardware? Oha! I cannot imagine that courts will be amused about this. AND: at the 2nd Tour (Pulsar II) I asked in this direction and received information that "Soon you will be able to compile your software for a specific board via our internet shop". So this seemed to be a fair deal. But it turns out... (the rest is silence).
Anyway, happy pulsaring.
