Good idea for controlling Noah (iPad)

Post by ehasting »

Hello,

i just discovered this application: http://iosmidi.com/apps/midi-touch/
It allows you to also create template, which can send all kinds of data. My first thought was! that must be great for Noah!

Does anyone uses that with an iPad today?!

yeah, I posted it in the 'Synthmaker' thread in Off Topic ... ;)
Scope (or Noah) Screens are fairly easy to setup, if you consider a numbering scheme for the controllers in advance.
The app doesn't count as an 'investment', but it's worth to buy an iPad for it alone. Seriously.

It's way more flexible than a Mackie C4 and the response is marvellous.
There's an intelligent handling of the touch movement to switch between hires and fast steps.
In particular it's intuitive opposed to an abstract grid of dials with small labels.
The playing pads (usable as 'keys') have a gesture mode in which hit position translates to velocity and keeping the finger down adds aftertouch.
You can give the pads full speed action, as fast as your fingers can swipe :D
Works bidirectional, moving a Scope control positions the respective item on the iPad, as does preset loading.

I have it on the Alesis iO-Dock, version 1.0.0, sh*t ... seems to munge sysex, as that's the only midi item that fails.
Thought it be cool to control my old Yamaha DXs and possibly a Korg S3... this sucks because it is really easy to enter the sysex stuff and even cute in screen design.
This has been reported a couple of times about the Alesis, which is otherwise a nice box.
Ok... the plastic is ugly as hell, but sound is pretty solid. They have discrete transistor IO, could even use an old Grundig (Beyer inside) ribbon if distance wasn't too far.

one can share screen designs of Midi Touch, and as items can be grouped in tab layouts you got plenty of screen estate.
just have to plan a bit which section combines best with another one to have most flexibility.

cheers, Tom

I think i will create some screens for the noah i guess. also creating a STM2448 (or what that mixer is called) is also a task :).
btw.. does the STM2448 only accept Midi CC or sysex as well?!
