Envato, ARtlist, MusicBeds... experience ?

Post by spacef »

Hi guys,

Does anyone has experience with the online music banks like Envato, Artlist, Music beds etc ?
They are music services for webdesigners, youtubers, video and film makers.

I imagine that it could be more rewarding than the usual ways of making/releasing music, not necessarily financially speaking ? I guess it is rewarding to hear your music on someone else's videos, or films...

I mean, it's like putting something on soundcloud, but with more possibility than soundcloud's "nothingness" .
I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback if any. Otherwise, well, may be it's a good idea for Zer who release music of sufficient quality.

Thanks !

https://artlist.io/ looks more "official" or for actual record companies, but why not (they are not open for new subscriptions right now)

Residual income streams aren't bad. How this is managed would be interesting to know, whether one does it as an independent artist or via a publishing company that handles distribution to these type of sites...

One thing I will note, is that I often see the same content on different royalty free sites with completely different attribution! Ie, different composer/performer/owner information. I know this because Youtube etc will flag content as being this different owner, and we have to provide our source to back up the royalty free copyright claims and get the content restored. I mention this because it's unclear where the info gets messed up. Are people reselling the same content under different names to sidestep licensing issues (a contract locking you out of selling it to other channels?), or is this a distributor not handling their metadata well...or?

well they did not accept my soundtrack . reason given is "the track is not bad but it is not commercial enough, not like the rest of the stuff we already have " .....
Now I understand why we can't escape that shitty music and general formatting on youtubers vids :-) they have no choice on these platforms :-)

disapointed: I am not fit for commercial music .... :-(.... but well, I knew that already :-) ahh, if I had one oif those 1000 euros sample banks for movies...
well, also, it was only one attempt with one track only.... I could also try again later. I have to train and produce a "MarshMello" sound https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALZHF5UqnU4

Not fit, doubtful. However the real question would be, is learning their formula(s) worth the investment of time? This is also why I wondered how stuff is getting published, the duplication of content under different titles and authorship on various sites makes it seem as if many attempt to sidestep contracts and spread their content as widely as possible.

Btw, the same thing exists in the stock asset world for graphics as well. Sticking with established norms and formulas and then extending them a bit so you carve out a 'niche' is how 3D assets, stock photo and stock video content works too. And the income stream I have seen in the few attempts at doing this reminds me of when I was attempting to do stock audio loop/sample content. It's on par with being a streaming ambient artist, a few pennies here and there at best until a brand is built or some untapped territory is discovered.

I watched the movie "Yesterday", by Danny Boyle .
The pastiche of the music industry can make anyone happy to not be part of the show business. When ED Sheeran suggest to change "hey jude" into "hey dude", it's really funny.
