MIDI CC values randomizer

Post by ognen »

Is it possible or is there already a device that can randomize the CC values?
For example if I assign to A1 synthesizer in Cubase for the CC 74 values(Cutoff I think) to be randomized, then every time when I press a keyboard button dependent on the velocity randomizations, so CC 74 to receive random values.
Thank you

You mean a MIDI device which generate random values on a specific CC message ?
A kind of random LFO which send CC value instead of being assigned/routed inside a synth effect device.
Even better (or as a different solution/device) the same principle but involving a sample and hold module triggered by a key press ?
Is that what you need ?
If you explain a bit more I may be able to provide you something ...

Exactly! I use computer keyboard instead MIDI keyboard, so that is a problem for sending random velocity values. So it would be better if you can make velocity and pitch values to be randomized independently with a value range control (for example random values between 65-127) and the rest assigned CC numbers to have value range control for randomization too.

To be more precise I will give you an example:

velocity=random values between 34-87
pitch=random values between 22-127
CC#45=random values between 4-76
CC#78=random values between 55-99
CC#26=random values between 2-88
etc.

I hope this will help you understand me clearly.
Thank you

First attempt not so successfull so far...
I also would like to achieve a first version of my 2nd synth plug-in before working more on your request.

If you have the modular you could try to make a patch that randomizes the CCs. It should be not difficult I think, but it could be quite expensive in terms of DSPs.

Just an idea... :-)

A good one !!!

The modular is also a smart tool to draw the line of a new project and experiment a bit.
It can even be used to make music !!! :D

By the way, why do you expect such a patch to be DSP hungry ?

Because the first idea that comes to my mind is sometrhing like this:
load the Flexor multival (one or more, it depends on how may CCs you have to randomize). Load a LFO (with the random waveform and the gate function) for each control change and connect every LFO to the corresponding input of the multival. Set all the LFO speeds to zero. Then assign the control changes to the knobs of the multival (right clink on them...). Giving the gate signal, the LFOs should be retriggered and due the random waveform they should change/randomize every CC assigned to the multival.

I think it should work, but I can't try it untill the weekend. It's expensive because for randomizing 128 CC you have to load 128 LFO!

There should be a more smart way to do this for sure... Any modular guru can suggest a better way?

Roy? Atom? Kamil? Alfonso? Anyone else? :-P

OK, I was thinking about only a patch to control 1 CC message ... at first.

I don't have time to work on this right now, but instead of LFO's you could create a white noise S&H circuit. Remember the gate signal is Async, so this method shouldn't need to use a lot of dsp

hmmm... I appreciate your opinions about using modular, but I strongly agree that Modular eats allot of DSP resources and I only have the smallest card (3 DSPs, don't laugh please ) , so I think that if it is made in Scope/DP or something, it would be better, eating much less resources. I would like to have Scope/DP for myself to experiment, but I don't fulfill the standards for having it.

I think that FOAM by j9k might do what you're after, if I understand correctly. Or at least something pretty similar.

However, the link on that page isn't working anymore. I'll try and dig FOAM out this weekend and upload it.

I've re-uploaded F.O.A.M. to the original thread:

Hope it does at least some of what you're looking for.

hmm... sorry for the delayed response, but I must admit that FOAM is not that I am looking for. So, thank you anyway for your effort.
