To me, the sts gui is useful!
I like it. There are other things to do:

I like the way the STS5000 can expand to show all 16 programs. I like it functionally, and for some reason, I like the look of it a lot more. I'd like to have the "lcd backlight" and text be contrast-adjustable, and to have a choice of colors.
I DON'T like the way I have to open the file browser and the pool windows and scoot them around. It's distracting.
The pool is important, especially for selecting patches from soundfont banks. Not having the pool on the STS2000p is weird.

The Ed!son sampler from Terratec. All on one screen, much easier to use than STS series.
Also all saves into one file, so no need to keep lots of directorys full of *.wavs that yo mustn't edit, and preset files.
