New SoC I Think I’ll Try

Post by dawman »

https://www.eteknix.com/asus-launches-p ... therboard/

My apps over the years have greatly reduced the need for CPU IPS and of recently I’m not going above 25% on 2 of 4 Cores.
For 60 bucks I’m going to see how Native apps work out.
I’ve got extra RAM, Chassis and SSDs laying around.

It’s possible after all these years developers are squeezing instructions out of AVX to the point where these 4.4GHz CPUs just aren’t needed.
A friend is using a lowly SoC from ASRock with the Xeon D2100. Downside is no GFX.
This Celeron has HD 600 and 2 Cores at 2.7GHz burst might be all a live rig needs.
10watts too.
My triple 22k fans on my Supermicro are as loud as my Strings....
Be nice to hear silence in between songs instead of a vacuum cleaner..

Have you looked at this range from asrock? http://www.asrockrack.com/general/produ ... ifications

I'd love to know how they perform for audio work with Xite-1. Obviously different price range!

Forgot to thank Omnisphere/Keyscape, Kontakt and especially PianoTeq Pro 6.1, latest free optimization’s.

No HDMI, but there's an RS232 port for a direct connected original Arduino!

Not sure if there are adapters for the RS232 to HDMI available but the ASpeed chip provides acceptable 2D graphics.
I’ve used ASpeed on Supermicro boards and it’s fine.

But I’m liking HD6000 GFX and triple monitors in case I retire to composing/recording.
I’m running Dual monitors atm when I’m home playing around and it’s nice.

The Avoton Octo Core sure looks nice.

Think I’d rather gamble on the Celeron.
But I also like the ASRock SoC D2100s that just came out.

I’ve been using XITEs PCI-e connector card in 4x 8x and recently PCI 3.0 16x Slots on ASRock boards.
They work fine, fit tight and keeps me in a 1U chassis as the DRAM DIMMs are perpendicular to the faceplate allowing fans to blow through the RAM and CPU area, in and out of case.
Loud as hell though.

Laptops become more powerfull these days.
The HP Zbook 15 G4 w/ Intel XEON E3 1535M v6 (quad-core/ 8MB L3 cache) and Samsung Pro M.2 is lightning fast.
It has NVidia Quatro and 2 Thunderbold connectors in addition to all the USB3 and 3.1 etc.
PSU is 150W.
It can run hot at full power, but there´s a docking station available lifting it up some more from any surface.
I read a test @ www.notebookcheck.com and they reported improvements over the allready good Zbook 15 G3 incl. 4% more DSP power.
Not cheap,- but also only half as expensive the Getac MiL grade machines were.

And when we had a "HDMI to Thunderbold" connector cable for XITE,- that would be great.
But maybe the "Expresscard to Thunderbold" adapter for MAC, mentioned here somewhere, might work too ( ? ).

:)

I used an ADK and a 2.4GHz Getac. Loved both but if I can use the Express to Thunderbolt that really changes things.
Love my 1U but I’m getting beat up huffing these cabinets and racks around.

I’m in a 6 week Physical Therapy Program as my left shoulder muscle (Teri’s Minor) from standing to perform has caused injury.
I lowered my keys 6 inches and therapy has really educated me.
But my 4U ATA weighs 100 pounds and after rehearsals and gigs I have to down a double Jager just to motivate me to carry it.

I want a new laptop if these adapter wok.
I can’t see making shitty money and injuring myself.
Can’t stop gigging. I don’t know anything else.
I’m at a crossroads but the info here definitely helps..
