Mobo Of Death

Post by nightscope »

Evenin' all.

I've just ordered a Gigabyte Z97P-D3 mobo from the rainforest. 60 quidz. I'm waiting to get it before ordering a CPU. I'm not sure how my 2 x Scope 15 DSP's will fit with the SATA connectors on the mobo. If they don't, I'll send it back and the hunt continues.

Assuming the cards will not conflict with the SATA connectors, I will get a CPU. The one I'm looking at is the Intel Core i7 4790K S 1150 Haswell Refresh Quad Core Processor. So, simple question. Will it work OK with the Gigabyte mobo? I'm pretty sure it will, but looking for confirmation from those that know for sure.

I don't really need a new box, the old DG965RY + 775 one is battling on with endless vigour. But these PCI slot mobo's are becoming tricky to get hold of, so a backup is in order. The Asus Z87 and Z97's are rare as hen's teeth. ASRock the same.

Good news is there's plenty of new open plan type cases that'll fit the long cards.

Cheers,

I think Z97s and i7 4790k are excellent audio kit.
I've got 3 x now, one using an i7 5775C CPU which is a Xeon in drag.

How many PCI Slots you need?

AMI Bios is a pain in the ass, and on Supermicro boards that's what you get.
An ASRock Z97 w/ i7 4790k is really easy, fast and stable.

Liked them so much I just bought a new Mobo/CPU Combo.

Z87 was also good. And i7 3770k CPUs were great using an MSI Board.

But if Z87 and 3 /4 PCI slots are needed, this looks to be a life long investment.
SATA Connectors facing up shouldn't be a problem, but with 5 slots finding a few to work should be easy enough.

Thanks, Jimmy. I need two PCi slots. Also need some PCIe's for 2 X UAD's.

I've just ordered the rest of it.

Intel Core i7 4790 Quad Core Professional Processor

Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard

Corsair CC-9011059-WW 9011080 Carbide Series/600Q Full Tower ATX Performance Computer Case

SanDisk SSD PLUS 120 GB up to 530 MB/s Sata III 2.5 inch Internal SSD

HyperX Savage 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 2400 MHz DDR3 CL11 UDIMM XMP Memory Module - Red

Corsair CP-9020092-UK RM750x 750 W 80 Plus Gold Certified Modular 135 mm Thermally Controlled Fan Power Supply Unit - Black

This lot will definitely outlive me. However, I have made arrangements to have it all buried with me like wot the ancient Egyptians did, innit.

I now go to tender a burnt offering to Osiris, ruler of the underworld and judge of the dead, in the hope of an easy and pain free build.

Prayer starts, "Oh, Lord Osiris, you truly rock, etc, etc,....."

Osiris is a just and righteous god.

Cards fit OK. There's 6 SATA's on mobo. One card covers two. Four are easily accessible. I only need two or three, max.

Yes, who knows..
Maybe my body will be worth something in 1000 years.
Right now estimated Street price is a few hundred, since that's all I carry on me.
