I have created 3 useful tools and put them together into one package.

1. STSCreator - For batch creating sts programs out of wav files.
2. STSAdd - For creating drumprograms on the fly.
3. STSMod - For batch modifying already existing sts programs.

Let me know what you think along with more feature requests. Also, plz respond in this thread...

I've found the STS Add application very useful in the past. I haven't managed to get anywhere with STS Creator, but I'll perservere. When I mentioned auditioning samples, I was thinking that it would be nice to have some such facility in the .wav selection dialog.

Another idea I had was to do with being able to build several instruments at once. An example of a use for this would be for the times when you have a large number of .wav files (e.g. on a sample CD) and wish to make some drum kits out of them. The layout of the UI would include a file browser and an instrument browser, where it is possible to drag a file from the former into one of several instruments in the latter (preferably having auditioned them).

I'm quite happy to mock something up in VB to demonstrate the idea. I could at least get it to add sets of files to instrument collections which could then be used to generate STS files. Do you know of any decent (preferably ActiveX) controls to deal with .wav file playing?

Cheers,
Will

P.S. Please feel free to e-mail me if you want to discuss this in more detail.

Hi King Blue,

many thanks for this great tool. I used it and it works fine.

I have one little wish which should only take one hour of your life to improve this tool extemely:

a. Could you create a batch version of this tool? I mean that i could call it by using parameters. Sometimes i have a lot of directories of drum samples. If i want to create a sts program for each directory then i have to click with my mouse a lot of times. An another solution could be like this: i create a text list of the directories, then a write a small cmd program what is like this:

stsadd <sts-template> <first directory of samples>
stsadd <sts-template> <second directory of samples>

where sts-template is the name of the sample directory.

Then i don't need to call the program everytime manually. It will be called automatically by running the batch.

This chance only needs one hour of your life, because it is easy to develope it;-)

b. The best solution would be if i could select multiple directories in one time. Then stsadd only needs to know the sts-template location. It only have to rename the sts-program to the name of the directory what consists of the samples. Then this tool is more super.

Pls let me know if you want to do it.

Many thanks in advanced.

Oh the planetz delete some characters of the batch example. The example is like this:

stsadd stsTemplateName1 DirectoryOfSamples1
stsadd stsTemplateName2 DirectoryOfSamples2
stsadd stsTemplateName3 DirectoryOfSamples3
stsadd stsTemplateName4 DirectoryOfSamples4
...

Also I will remind guys these links work.
You simply need to copy from the www. part till it ends, then paste it on your browser.
There's tons of gunk before and after the actual link, making it a PITA.
Just clicking on the entire information link won't work, a little surgery is needed.
