ASUS Prime X570-PRO doesn't boot with Xite-1

Post by dvans »

Hello,

Is someone has encountered an issue with an ASUS Prime X570-PRO (AM4, AMD X570, ATX) or another AM4 motherboard with X570 chipset? The PC doesn't boot at all!

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

Do you mean it doesnt boot when the XITE-1 PCIe card installed into Motherboard slot or it doesnt boot period even without the XITE-1 PCIe card installed ?

- PCIe card installed into motherboard and Xite-1 off -> PC Boot OK
- PCIe card installed into motherboard and Xite-1 on -> PC Boot NOK

I pluged the PCIe card into a PCI 4.0 x16 slot. It was the last slot free.

I asked Gary and he told me that it's maybe due to the use of a "graphic card slot".

That's right, but since you're supposed to turn on XITE before you boot, it would never be in a scenario where the computer is on and XITE is on but a disconnect is caused by computer going to sleep.

Check your bios and see if “crossfire-x” is turned on. If it is then it is likely looking for a 2nd video card.
You are using the two 1X PCI-E slots? With what might I ask?

Then I must have missed something. If the computer wont boot with XITE on, how could the computer going to sleep have any bearing on the issue ?

i was simply checking to see if it STARTED from a sleep state. i'm asking the simple dumb questions for more clarity. if it STARTED from a sleep state, then it will NEVER work. the idea is to make sure that the bigger problem(something actually broken) exists.

since it's been confirmed that the unit doesn't work in a second PC, we now know that there is probably something broken.

thank you for your assistance. i don't mind being the stupid one.

Ture, if he's referring to a restart from sleep as a 'Boot' (I wouldn't have read it that way but there ya go). Anyways if the XITE doesnt work in a 2nd PC that's fairly conclusive.

Some UAD guys have issues with their DSP racks and 570 boards too.
Since there’s no built in GFX on the CPU you have to use a GFX card.
Slot allocation is always hit and miss, which is why I don’t use any CPU that doesn’t have built in GFX.

I have one PCI e 1x for XITE-1 and that’s all I want in my slots.
Don’t even want NVMe M.2s anymore either as they take away 4 lanes, adding more pipes to the plumbing.

Slot allocation is entirely up to the motherboard maker, model AND revision, along with what CPU is used (that determines what lanes are even active). I would have responded earlier, but didn't have time to reference the manual and ask what CPUID. Seems it wasn't necessary anyway, hope all turns out well.

If the unit is turned off, the PC is booting like if there is no PCIe card inserted in the slot. That's what I noticed since years.

Issue solved with the latest version of the BIOS!

BIOS:
Version 3405
2021/02/05

Thanks Gary for your help!
Thanks to all for your thoughts!

Note : During investigation, I noticed using a HDMI cable with Ethernet can produce problems.
