Hey Scopers,
Looking to upgrade and slim down my physical setup. I'd like to use a Microsoft Surface Studio 2 with Xite. Alas, no open PCIe slot in the minimalist computer. Has anyone had success using a PCIe card externally over USB? Is it an insane idea? Is there another way this could work? Hit me up with some knowledge and/or personal experience.

no.
usb is wholly incompatible.

Host Xite on a secondary PC? I would think an i3 with a built in GPU on a micro-ATX (or smaller) board is fine as long as you have 1 PCIe slot and room for the Xite card. There are 1080p monitors that go down to as small as 12" with HDMI inputs (don't use USB for primary monitor unless you know that the DP>USB3 connection is working properly, as it's unlikely to do with an i3).
