Hardware Error (Ram failure) on Pulsar One - solved

Post by astroman »

well, it's been some time since my 1st Pulsar complained about a 'Ram error' and didn't initialize anymore.
As this card carries most of my licenses, some even unrecoverable, it was a pretty pity.
I even bought a heatgun to replace the chips, but never dared...

Anyway, inspecting it closely revealed one of the 4 caps beneath the voltage regulator had come loose. They sit close to the 2 Ram chips and seem to buffer those.
Resoldered and it was up working again :)

So if anyone runs into similiar messages, it may not be the part itself failed, but something more simple connected to that part...

cheers, Tom
