Please, can somebody dumb this procedure down a bit, for someone thick brained like me?
And how could that possibly work in XTC?
(SX3 as well)

pass imho get asus p5k (basic model) or gigabyte ga-p35-ds3 rev2 instead (rev2 doesn't have legacy ports, it's all-usb affair). I'd dare to say these two boards have better build quality than intel (gigabyte at least, the board feels good if you hold it in your hands, not as sturdy as tyans, but goo...

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboards/display/ga-p35c-ds3r_3.html http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/mainboards/ga-p35c-ds3r/scheme.png looks like it's hooked to pcie, so dsp should have some slack. (it doesn't have firewire, so that's bad for those who would otherwise hook a pcie fw800 card ... i...

The basic *35 (=cheap, non-cfire) models (f.e. asus p5k / giga ga-p35-ds3 ...) come with 3 pci slots. From reading on internet I don't see any point in getting a *38chipset board. Gigabyte has a fairly basic (=undecorated) *35 model with both ddr2/ddr3 ram slots (if you look closely, they come in ra...

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=AM2NF3-VSTA this one looks quite nice for a slave PC. Afaik NF3 was the highest performing chipset, together with a 45W 3800+ Lima this would be a nice solution (if that wasn't assrock). Gigabiyte also has similar hybrid with shitloads of pci's http://tw.g...

Gigabyte's boards from these series also look nice: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2544 GA-P35C-DS3R is also interesting. on some variants (like this particular one) the green connector is a major pita. most variants don't have firewire, so a pcie ca...

In theory that's exactly what it does. On a channel or in mix, there's always more to it - attack-release thing, slow release in some cases sounds very fine. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it sucks. Sometimes it sounds like an enhancer but it's not, just plain old compressor. Ymmv. If paralleled, ca...

I think you want peaklimiters on all groups plus one on master 2-buss set so they shaveoff only bad peaks. For vocals I think you may want to have an AGC / leveller inserted before any additional sweetening/processing. Or a very slow-riding compressor. (there's something like that in Cub/Nuendo dyna...
