Re: Chinese motherboard.

but I had issues with Xeon Chipsets for some reason, never HEDT or consumer. That's the problem. These Chinese motherboards are for Xeon. The i7 would work as well which would be 3930 k and 4930k as well as any LGA 2011 CPU's. Problem with these chinese boards is that information is hard to ...

Thanks for the reply Fraz. Any problem with Scope?

Regards.
Hi, I've not tried with Scope but it is Intel platform X79 with 7 series chipset so it should work. Please note should work!!!

Ofcourse you could get a cheaper 300 series motherboard and get a used 8400 i5 ! And get similar results! -

Re: Chinese motherboard.

Hi, Interesting subject for computers - I got one or two X79-T motherboards - Don't know who even makes them but are available on Amazon / Ebay etc....and the prices vary - But 60 is OK for one of these boards. The one you looked at is a different board but still X79 - Which will use the E5_2600_ser...

Re: PAE patch XP Professional

Right I just meant it’s clear the machine has a lot of RAM and you’re trying to use it in a 32bit OS. Was wondering what was holding you back from a 64bit memory space... Nothing is holding me back from using 64 bit OS - I've done some XP installs on modern boards for both 32 bit and 64 bit followi...

Why are you so focused on PAE? Do you need STS samplers?
I'm just trying to get the best out of PAE - :) - I've got x64 as well so either can be used - If there are too many problems I'll find out - STS can be used without PAE

Re: PAE patch XP Professional

Win7 is likely your best bet. It's the closest to Xp32 from any modern OS (Vista dropped things and they 'walked back' some of those API changes later which means that Vista did get 'patched' but Win7 came from the get-go with the legacy cruft bolted back in). Ie, you can disable the DWM (Aero) and...

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/window ... dfrom=MSDN

Regarding PAE what problems will people run into when using PAE? and what are the best fixes?

Re: PAE patch XP Professional

Hi, I've got an image of Windows 7 to try out - ready to go with most updates on ! - With this stuff I'm not that good at it! - But, I've read that IGP (Intel HD 4000__sandy_)___onwards had problems with grpahics__and PAE. Do discreet GPU's have problems with PAE? I'll look up Aero (from memory it i...

Re: PAE patch XP Professional

OK I found something at long last so I'll share it here. Below is a link to a PAE patch for XP and ++ other OS - It's for 128 GB - I've just done this on a one click install / un-install - It is however only showing as 64 GB! - haha - Only 64 GB! not the 128 GB so I took a look in system32 folder an...

PAE patch XP Professional

Hi, Got XP working on modern boards which is great - SATA / AHCI etc......but need a PAE patch that is simple-ish to implement - And with good instructions too ! Tried one today but it froze the USB totally - so is similar to a crash - There are one or two which are one click installable / un-instal...

Re: PCI-e to PCI extender for Scope ( experiment going to be a solution :) )

OK I did get one or two of the Sintech style PCI cards with 2 x PCI slots on --- On my travels I found this which is a 1 x PCI-e to PCI adapter card - So you'd need 3 based on the assumption that they work!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Slot-Extension/PCI-Express-to-PCI-Adapter...

Thanks fraz! Just a reminder that for audio work, regardless of AMD or Intel, Faster cores > More cores. 3700X gets my vote :) >>>It was possible to get some IVY BRIDGE XEON E5 CPU's - cheaper than i5's - Example E5_1680_V2 (think early version 5960X)___standard clocks of this Xeon are 3.0 Ghz >>>>...

Thanks fraz! Just a reminder that for audio work, regardless of AMD or Intel, Faster cores > More cores. 3700X gets my vote :) OK, but the 3900 X 12C/24T does have exceptional single threaded performance according to the reviews but the Asus Prime X370-A is limited in what it can handle from the VR...

Re: AMD CPU's

This is the board I was talking about - If anyone does buy one of these boards, the 3rd GEN 3700 X would be the most the board could handle properly as it's rated at 65 W (maybe 3800 X ). Whilst it has 2 PCI slots which is useful for us the technical aspects of the board (current handling) are limit...

Re: PCI-e to PCI extender for Scope ( experiment going to be a solution :) )

Yes I agree having looked at one of these - It is like a miniature motherboard, where there are 4 standoffs to screw into a case chassis which would be additional to the motherboard so working something out would be a little difficult

Re: PCI-e to PCI extender for Scope ( experiment going to be a solution :) )

Looking at the little PCB where the 2 x PCI slots are, there is a black vertical connector (SATA power)___that would connect to the PSU "power supply unit" for the computer. A good PSU would have a cable to connect to this to provide power from the PSU to the PCB for the 2 x PCI slots - Just thought...

Re: Disk imaging for your DAW

Hello Valis, When I've done the backups - it isn't with a view to restore (my angle was to have master original & cloned backups for an original install of Windows and drivers. If there was lots of music apps installed over a period of time then it would make sense to re-clone (ticking the box for o...

Re: Disk imaging for your DAW

Hello Valis, I've done a lot of PC installations of Windows 10 for me and others - I did try Macrium Reflect (free)_it needs to be registered though via an email address, then a pass code is generated for installation on multiple machines for the purpose of backup / clone - I've even used to clone f...
