that was something left over from v2 or so. it is for soundblaster cards. it was never very cool.

Re: PCI Express x1 to PCI/PCI-X Adapter Card

PCI is obsolete.
what do you expect?

if you look at consumer gaming boards only, you will have fewer choices. commercial boards are more likely to have legacy connections.

Re: Copy protection error Xite-1

the error just means that the Scope program, the PC and the XITE have lost communication. you can't remove power from the XITE while it's connected. it's not hot-swappable.

v7 should work, too. it works in XP, so it should be ok in 2K.

yeah, i'd rather run XP than 2K....

Re: VST pops and clicks

spikes mean cpu overruns. the meters in an app like Ableton are not all that accurate. a very quick overrun may not last long enough for the meter to record it.

something may be running in the background. application updaters?

Re: Scope/XITE > Exception

i don't get it.

why not test on another computer?
why not get a RA, to test at SC?

about the device manager listing, no. it does not mean that it works. it means that the part of the system that tells Windows that the connected device is an XITE, works.

Re: Giada causes BSOD in Scope.sys

there are apps that initialize the driver in ways that Scope cannot respond to. this would seem to be one of them.

perhaps it will work with ASIO4all.

Re: Real vs Plug - amusing video

To my ears, since I've been using more and more 'analog modelled' stuff over the last couple of years (mixer and plugs), it sounds way better and closer to analog records than straight digital plugs. If that's an illusion, its one I'm happy to pay for. who said it's an illusion? what is funny is th...

Re: Real vs Plug - amusing video

does the audience know? does the "engineer"/"producer" know? for the most part, no. they don't know. it's pretty clear that "something" is lacking with modern tools, in spite of modern tools being really good, better on average compared to old stuff. listening to "...

modeled, or just tweaked to sound similar?

i doubt most modeled circuits really are. too many hours in a lab, that shit's expensive when you're selling a $50-200 plug.

Re: Real vs Plug - amusing video

yeah, there is a big difference between plugins and real hardware, but plugins are more than good enough. GENERALLY, hardware sounds better, but plugins are cheaper and offer a convenient workflow while still sounding good. a great engineer gets great results in any case. sorry, the simulation is in...
