i 've done a test with an external HD box with USB2 and firewire connection .
with samplitude I've tried to read a 24 tracks project which is on the external disk .
with USB2 connection it was full of lag and with firewire connection is was perfect !
I need no more !!

me too ! sfp freeze if the pc had been idle for too long . it don't crash the machine ; i have just to restart sfp3.1c .

I pretty sure sfp works in 32 bit integer ; but only someone from creamware could elucidate this as some plug ins like vintage eq works at 64bit !! maybe it's some virtual 64 bit something .

more often when I record a mixdown through sfp , I record it in 32 bit bloat in samplitude . most of the ...

sometime samplitude give me 32bit (non float !!! ) when I record mixdown through asio etc ..

the bit meter in samplitude has the red float led and some time this led don't shine ! very strange ....

the only problem I have is when I activate the USB . samplitude stop immediatly soon after i play when using multitrack asio ; since i don't use USB2 externe drive it doesn't bother me too much ... by the way I noticed firewire is far far better for multitrack ( so if required I use firewire port ...

thx i will try changing the slot.
right now CW cards on slot 2,3,4 and scsi card on slot 5 .
on the bios I set up like this :

pci 1//5 : auto
pci : 5
pci : 5
pci : 5

but in win XP the 3 cards has 3 differrents irq ! :wink:
first I would avoid the first pci slot since it share an irq with the 5th ...

on my old config (i815 and PIII-S 1.2ghz) the 3 boards shared the same irq . if not it was a disaster.

for the new one I disable all the unnecessary thing in the bios (parrallel port ,usb2, firewire ) and installed winxp in pc standard mode . i get plenty of free irq etc .. in the bios I've set up ...

my new config :

p4C800
PIV 3.2ghz prescott
1go RAM
3 pulsar cards
1 scsi card

win XP in standard PC mode

I have plenty of free irq but each pulsar card had their own irq .
I try to manage in the bios but not way .
is there a way to force the 3 board to have the same irq ?
by the way the daw work ...

it's a nice trick to use a compressor in AUX send . it's called transparent compression .
and it's often use . the problem is the latency . easy to have a couple of sample offset between the dry channel and the AUX with the compressor . so beware of phase nightmare ....

i don't think protools do the mixdown in two separate mono file ONLY.

we just asking to keep in the scope domaine .
but sure you can do a mixdown thru a software ( ie soundforge)

I think you don't have to use avant-garde tools to be avant garde or what .
i'm agree that some design need to be rethink to be used with a mouse etc .. but maybe it's the mouse that need to be re-design ?
but yes the future is on the human/machine interface
