- PIII 1.26GHz (better than a P4 for Pulsar?)
- 512K L2 cache
- ASUS TUSL2C
- 512Mb SDRAM
- GeForce2 MX 64MB AGP video card
- IBM Deskstar drive
- Iomega internal CDRW
- Internal 100Mb zip (love those zips!)
- A BIG case
- Win98SE

The PIII doesn't sort of feel right with all this P4 vs AMD 2GHz talk, but it's still double what I'm using now...

A nod in the affirmative, or a grunt for no would be good.

Sounds good to me, as I just got a TUSL2-C with the Celeron 1200 and it works very smooth, so should your proposed setup also do very fine, even a bit better.
I´d just propose getting a 2nd, smaller HD for system, programs and the swap file.

i'm not expert - i can tell you my experience.
i had p3/933 with cusl2(i815), now i have p4/2.2 with p4t-e(i850). i had some setings-problems in the begining, but now my system works much better than p3!
just my experience
