Win 10 Scope 7 crash with SAWStudio64 Asio

Post by Jonathan T »

Hi

I have a long time stable working system with Win 7 (no internet) so I am doing some Win 10 experimenting on a separate SSD system disk.

System Specs: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
MSI Gaming 3 computer/motherboard. Intel i7-4790K 4.00GHz
32GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM
3 x Pulsar 2 cards, no IRQ conflicts.

Scope 7. Installed successfully.
SAWStudio recording/multitrack software (not common but brilliant programme).
32bit version: works perfectly using Scope Asio drivers.
64bit version (SAWStudio 64): Will load and run using standard multimedia drivers. Crashes to blue screen with Scope Asio drivers. Blue screen says Scope.sys is the problem.

Very strange. Have tried Win7 compatibility mode for both Scope7 and SAWStudio64. Run both as administrator.

Scope7/SAWStudio64 combination works perfectly with Win7. Why bother with Win10 I hear you say. Only because I cannot get an internet connection with Win7, wired ethernet or WiFi. Have tried most things I know with updating correct drivers etc. Both internet connections work with Win10.
Of course it is a mixed blessing having internet on an audio computer. But it is useful for updating VST programs etc. particularly the complex guitar and drum ones. Updating via another internet computer and transferring across is awkward.

I'm not expecting too much particularly as I use unusual recording software. But if anyone has any ideas I can try I'd be grateful.

Best Regards

Jonathan

an old problem, unfortunately. if the driver update happens, the problem should be fixed, but...

strange that you can't get an internet connection with win7, did you try win10 32bit?

Thanks Gary

I'll stick to Win 7 for now then. I should be able to solve the internet connection problem but it is proving tricky.

Maybe I'll give Win 10 32bit a go in due course. Any obvious disadvantages compared to Win 10 64bit?

the only disadvantage to win10 32 over 64bit, is if you have software that needs 64bit. my studio computer is running 32bit win10 because i have some legacy software.

Win 7 it is for now then. When a driver update arrives, I can try Win 10 again but I know these things take time with SonicCore.

What ?
I´m running Win7 SP1 x64 om my main DAW machine and it worked flawlessly w/ Scope 7 x64, Reaper AND internet connection,- when I needed.

No,- you need it for updates (like you already mentioned) and it should work !

I know Bud - it seems absurd.

I'm no expert but I have done a lot of this over the years. I've never had such difficulty connecting to the internet. I'll track it down. I know the router and cables are good as it connects perfectly when I use the Win 10 system disk.

Might be the router, if it expects some more „modern“ security scheme.
btw hello from another SAW Studio user 8)

B.t.w.,- I´m using the same processor.
Which chipset is you mainboard,- Z97, like mine ?
Does it have 1 or 2 network connectors,- both using different chips,- Intel and "whatelse"?
Are you shure using the correct network driver(s) for your Win7 installation ?

:)

Hi Astroman - I remember your name from way back - I guess a lot of us are long time SonicCore/Creamware aficionados. I've had the router for ages - I've used it successfully in the past on Win 7 on this computer. I can't remember exactly when it bacame a problem but sometime recently the internet no longer worked. Of course I expect I must have done something.
The lights on the ethernet socket show solid green and flashing yellow (orange) which is correct as I understand it.
I have got a new internet provider recently but the problem predates this, at least I think so.

Hi Bud

Z97 gaming 3 (MS-7918 Socket 0) motherboard, Version 1.0
Chipset Vendor: Intel
Chipset Model: Haswell
Chipset Revision 06
Southbridge Vendor: Intel
Southbridge Model: Z97
Southbridge Revision: 00

One network connector, Kiler e2200 Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)
IP Address 192.168.1.123
My ip4 adress is set to automatic

I could have something wrong with my network drivers but I have scoured the internet and these are the ones that work
In Device Manager it reports them as working

I've got some settings wrong somewhere!

For the internet connection, if you are set to automatic, ensure that the gateway IP address is the one of your modem/router.
If for some reason the DHCP automatic assignment is not working, your automatic connection could be wrong.
Usually the default IP for the router is set to 192.168.1.1, you can check the connection properties from another device that connects properly and copy the gateway IP to set the connection manually on your faulty Win10 computer.
Also if the router is using a different IP, such as 192.168.100.1, be sure to use an IP in the same range for your connection, such as 192.168.100.2

Thanks djmicron

I've reached the stage where I can see Community Fibre in the internet options, connect to it with 'limited access' via wireless but this doesn't allow me to actually load a website.

If I just leave the wired adaptor enabled, I can 'connect to the internet' and see network 3 connected - but no internet providers listed.
I can ping the router no problem.

I've tried a different ethernet card on a pci-e bus rather than the built in Killer e2200, same problems with that.
It is very bizarre.

WAN Miniport pppoe is missing in Device Manager. The others are all there. I haven't been able to find how to reinstall it.
I've tried setting a fixed ip address as you suggest, maybe I am doing it wrong but no luck.

Hi,
i'm not 100% sure how you are trying to connect to the internet.

Could you issue this command from cmd and paste the results?

ipconfig /all

Hi djmicron

Confusing because I've tried both wired ethernet and wireless
This is the cmd prompt with only the ethernet adaptor enabled, no wi fi activated

The ethernet socket at the back of the computer shows solid green and flashing yellow
