Z170 is discontinued though, along with i7 6000 series CPUs, I.e. i7 6700k, etc.
May as well get the latest Intel since it’s really mature now.
The i3 8350k if you want a quad and any i5/i7 8000 series.

The i7 8700k is cheap now thanks to AMD.

Good the hear about the compatibility, thanks.

WOW :o ! You're right, the new i7 Coffee Lake 6-Cores are cheap now. Looks like the price has been dropped to only $339 for the 6-Core running at 3.7GHZ speed. $339 use to roughly be the price of the Quad-Cores now the 6-Cores are in the $300 price range wich is great news. The 6-Cores have gotten about a $200 price reduction. The AMD competition definitely is a good thing!

PS. Hope the next Quad-Cores see this same huge price reduction, wich I'd be surprised if they did not.

Yeah brotha’ man SoundD, 165 USD for the i3 8350k is sweet, but they’re going to need to have a 4.5GHz base speed on the 10nm Cannon Lake series.
The quads are speed demons as it is.
No extra gunk like “protection” or “turbo”, just the meat & potatoes...

FWIW Supermicro are very smart.
They never jump in with both feet until the dust settles.
The 1U motherboard for Q370 is a stripped down Audio demon.
No gaming gunk, no stinking blinking lights kids cry about.

I’m buying 2 x Quads just because I’ll have a spare that way.
I’d really like the 8700 but it’s just a waste of power for my needs.

The recent upgrades from Kontakt, u-He and PianoTeq are using less CPU cycles, as the CPUs get faster.
3.6 per Core is really all most of us need for Native synths, etc.

Happy days are here again.
BDay is next week, Scope 7 will be my gift to myself.
Can’t wait to try it out.

I suppose you have a point dawman - But the 4790 K / 7700 K still well solid and better mult-threaded but 8350 K being 150 isn't bad at all. The 8600 K with 6 cores 6 threads is only 30-40-50 $£ more with multi-threaded way better.

pu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600K-vs-Intel-Core-i3-8350K/3941vs3935

But all these CPU's are gonna work well

If you have VEP and use a slave it may not matter whether 8350 K is used or not over 8600 K

Cannon Lake may not appear till next year if the reports are correct

AN other 8 core will be released too for enthusiast platform which will make some Scope r's happy...9700 K
