This thing is almost as cheap as software, and you can use it to test your hardware as well. it is not a super high end scope by any means but you can see any waveform you can hear, and then some (up to 1 MHZ) as well as measure voltage and frequency, save waveform to PC (maybe good to make wavetables from hardware?)

I have just ordered one as a secondary and portable scope.

I found it after seeing the same thing on ebay under a different name for $218
