Share Your Vibrato Tricks

Post by dawman »

I’d do this in Scope using a Device or Modular Patch that sends multiple destinations from a single CC.

In Omnisphere this is easy with a right click on anything you choose.

Of course we like LFOs to modulate Oscillator Pitch.
But take the same CC and assign to Unison Detune and then again in the FX Section using a Vibrato Effect, and tie it to the depth.

Now your synth can sound like a Horn Section Shake.
You can even add a Delay to the LFO so the modulations sound thicker over time.

Any other ideas?

I never understood sc modular, then I bought a real doepfer modular I touched sound within short time. Today sc modular is very clear to me. But the real fun and a uncompromising Sound has the Hardware modular. Modulation is everything, there are so many ideas. In Software Format I was not so touched by Sound like with a Hardware based System. But now I understand the big try in Software simulations. Until now, it is still a simulation.

If you really want to get in Touch, take time with a real modular System, you will not come back so fast. There is so much to say about modulation....

I already use hardware live but I can’t use a set up without presets.
Someday I’d like to invest in a Nice Euro Rack.
Neutron from here has some incredible modules @ NAMM and other trade shows.
He’s doing so good we haven’t seen him for a couple years now....

So what’s your favorite Modulation/ Vibrato trick?

For vocal vibrato I sometimes hit my chest whilst recording. No CC’s required ankyu.

For a Liveband you urgently need presets. There is no place for an Experimental modular System. Only for a special Band using one often used Sound plus some other keyboards with presets, and yes for the Show.

My best vibrato is possible with the incredible minilogue, korgs PITCH Stick rejects back to the middle Position in a very gentle way, the haptic is so good, no other PITCH mod wheel can replace it.

I know this is not a trick but the best way to make a nice vibrato. Many others hate the stick, but I love it really.

Dante: your chest Trick works really, first I thought it is a joke, but I am a singer, and I tried it out : super idea! Wait for recordings....

What company is that?

I still pull up Paradox every once in a while, I made some nice presets.

I can’t remember now but if I saw his name Id recognize it.
Real unique Boutique Oscillators and Modulations.

Another great Modulation Trick is using AUX #1 on any Scope Mixer.
Connect to dNa FX Rack which works better as an external effect in the project window.
Select the Modulation Effect, choose Triangle wave and Pitch.
Set depth to max, and mix to max.
Right click on rate and assign CC #001.
Pick any synth.
Use the mod wheel on the synth which is usually CC # 001.
Modulate Vibrato on the synth and now you get the Pitch Shift and Vibrato together.
Much bigger sound.

Yes, as a modularist we say AM and FM. BUT the modularist is using also very high frequencies to get incredible sounds out of analog gear, without steps usually produced by digital devices. There is no resolution and no bounderies. And hum and hiss is a welcome buddy.
