Harmonizer or vocoder? Live vocal harmonies

Post by Ditykman »

Hello every one.
Actually I am preparing a live with vocals.
I am alone but I love chords.

I am searching a effect like a harmonizer but I can control with midi keybord :

Exemple : I sing a melodie and when I play at the same time notes with the midi keyboard my voice is tuned at the keybord notes.
To have a chord with 3 or 4 voices

I have tried with vocodizer but I don't know if is the right tool.
I want to do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8Z200HPZH8 But I don't have nectar and it is better with scope.

Thanks you

Regards

Jean

Vocodizer is one of the best live vocoders and very close to top analog gear in this domain (imho) :8
You can mix it with your 'regular' voice and achieve some harmonic effect, but the modulated wave heritage will always be obvious.

For vocal harmonization you need formant shifting added to the pitch transposition to keep the human touch.
It's quite a challenge (in software) to get that right, but depending on level and mix the flaws may not become too obvious.

My personal taste is to not hide the artificial character when faking voices by an artificial tool.
(so I'd prefer a setup with Vocodizer)

For live performances a real analog vocoder would be nice to have. Behringer VC340 offers thier famous roland clone for only 499€. Incredible PRICE. But if you have scope, then save your money :D
 out and about for music production. Are you still configguring your Studio  music first!

I'd rather use Eventide plugs for this, or hardware (quite a lot of these vocal processing boxes).
