55” TV Doubling As PC Monitor.

Post by dawman »

I’m wondering if this is feasible with one of my many spare PCs collecting dust.

I want to play with my PC from 20 feet away using wireless gadgets.
I’m not tripping about pixels or Feng Shui just wondering what I would need.

I have an ASUS P10Sm WS w/ XEON 1275 that has built in GFX.
I’m assuming I would need a dedicated video card for better results, no problem.
I’ve got a cheap ass 55” Insignia Roku 4K UHDTV.

Router from Charter for Cable Service, probably need an HDMI Splitter?
I don’t know jack shit.

Hook a brotha’ up..

You're hoping to play PC games?

Is the Charter router your internet, your cable TV channels, or both? Is it a smart TV with apps for streaming Netflix, etc.?

For PC games, you need a GFX card with an HDMI out, and then into the TV. Switch HDMI inputs at the TV and you're up and running. Unless the TV has only one HDMI input, and then you would need a 2in:1out switch to go back and forth between the cable channels box and the PC. If it's 4K, I would expect it to have multiple HDMI inputs though.

If the Charter cable box is internet only, run it to the computer, then the GFX HDMI out to the TV, and you should be able to use streaming services through a browser, or run games. No HDMI switch at that point, since all of the video streams are coming from the computer.

Are you trying to run DAW apps through this?

I need more info if this isn't describing your set up.

I’ve got a Smart TV and all the channels.
Dual HDMI Inputs, USB too.
Don’t want to play video games until I can get a reasonably priced 144hz TV.
There’s a 49” for 2 grand, but I don’t spread that kind of green around unless it’s a synth.

I think I’ll try the Xeon GFX first and if it’s okay I’ll consider myself lucky.

GaryB it’s the Asus board and CPU you had that I’m swapping in an old unused 4U Z97.
I got so many damn Z97s I’m giving them away.

Thanks for the advice Gents
