Nord Lead 2 alike for Scope?

Post by geiger »

Hello! I was wondering if there is a Scope synth device that is built like a Nord Lead 2 and has the same functionalities. I need to finish some old demos and i need a certain sound.. it is not a good sound.. but it is almost unique and best for my songs from 4 years ago and i need to be able to emulate it in Scope because there is so much capability in the Scope platform to do real sounding synths.
Any thoughts on this?? Thank you!!

Sur Audio released a nord based synth a few years back. Check the 3rd party Dec on SC site and look there. I can't remember name off ha d

Thanks. You were thinking of Sur Audio Void 2 and Cos 2. It seems that they are out of business and there is no way to get a license to make the devices work..

I think sur Audio is still around. He pulled the synths for some reason.

Maybe you could use modular to build a copy of it.

Not sure if I’m going mad, but faxi nadu might of even built a nord lead patch for modular

Ah, I remembered partly right, he did a patch for the nord modular. I don’t see why the same patch could not be made on scope modular though, would be loooong to do though. http://forums.scopeusers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30971

Thank you for the sugestions, guys. I emailed Sur audio. If anyone has the nord lead scope modular pack by faxi nadu, could you send it to me please? It is long time gone from the internet. faxi_nl_clone_addons.zip was the name of the archive. Thanks!

This is what you asked for but all the patch files inside these are in Clavia Nord Modular format and NOT Scope Modular.
http://faxinadu.net/files/faxi_nl_clone_addons.zip
http://faxinadu.net/files/faxi_nadu_-_n ... pack_a.zip
http://faxinadu.net/files/faxi_nadu_-_n ... pack_b.zip

But if you go to http://faxinadu.net/files/ most of the other zipped up packs are for Scope Modular, so they are worth getting anyway as there are some very useful patches in those.

And dont forget to say thanks to Faxinadu for all his hard work and making them available to us fellow Scopers

If it's a specific sound based on the synth engine (and not fx) then it's hard get the same out of Scope.
Even if you copy the architecture of the patch 100%, the DSPs react very different.
At least your're after a NordLead 2, the harshness of version 1 is close to impossible to match with Scope.
My guess is that synths from early Scope releases are the best candidates.
There was a free thing called Saturn iirc that could come close imh memory.

haha cheers guys :) agree with all of astroman's points btw.

also, do you REALLY need a clone of the whole thing? I imagine you need some specific stuff, why not try to get a synthesis chain for those specific sounds you are after instead of cloning a whole nord, which won't sound like a nord anyways (it will sound wonderful, but not THAT texture, will be scope texture)...

The Void and Cos and our Ocean Storm are all synths that take this nord/virus style direction. If its that grindish/fmish va style "lead" you are after on the nord, which is to me personally probably the only real appeal of the nord, then for example this is easily achieved on Ocean Storm (and also easily in modular, frankly, even without Flexor).

Yes, texture is a much better term to describe what's going on.
I simply like the one of that pre-Sharc ADSP 2101 (iirc) with it's 16bit fixed point math that runs in my Lexicon Vortex :D
(pretty much crap compared to Scope, but it's got character)

The Nords, to me, were always a bit clinical in their sound. Nothing warm about the oscillators or filter, nothing snappy or creamy about the envelopes. And that’s after owning both nord modulars.

But scope, on the other hand, has some amazingly warm sounds that can have “body”, much like a real instruments has a physical body. I think scope is the best among VAs, especially the modular.

tbh I like the M56K (Motorola DSP, which is the core of the Nord and Access synths and Pro Fools Eventide algorithms) sound as a complement to Scope.
Scope is unquestionable 'better' in audible terms, but the variance is the interesting part.
It's another color on the acoustic palette ;)
