New Sound Designer Tool : Harm Gen Synth (non-Scope)

Post by DragonSF »

I created 'The ultimate sound design toolkit". Start from scratch or use and existing instruments profile - either as raw data, re-synthesis output or math. formula. Edit it by merging with one or or more instruments, chnage the amplitudes, stretch times, copy and paste or move or delete segments. Sound tool is connected to a DSP via MIDI, where the sound can be heard in realtime. Even more: you can reverse selected segments , one complete partial or all with one click.
Also chaning the phase of one partial of add some frequency offset is possible. Only limits are your imagination.
Included are also a dynamic filter, a Delay function (4-Tap) with FB and FM.
Also keyboard velocity and modulation amount is honoured.

Is this designed for standard waveforms or will it work with complex waveforms too?

It works on all kind of waveforms, as long , as they long as they are periodic (i.e. a FFT is meaningful).

The GUI: at the moment Win 10. It's written within Qt, so it is portable. An earlier Version worked on Mac OS and iPad.
The DSP part is Teensy 3.6 at the Moment. I might be able to port it to Scope.
There is no official release schedule, but the principla programming is finished. Now it's all about testing.

Cool, I've got 2 Teensy 3.6 boards + Audio shields for them.

Did you extend the audio library in 1.42, or do something completely different?

I can beta test if you'd like. This seems like a good base for a eurorack oscillator ;)

Stay with Teensy! Or any other similar board, I love playing with these small things in my workspace. I have 2 NextThing TheChip's left in service here, 4 raspberry pi's from the first model up to a 3, and a box full of arduinos that have served as LED strip controllers and many other things. I would love a reason to add a Teensy to the arsenal, and for music no less =]

Yes, I extended some classes slightly, but then remaining libraries have been untouched. I'm using both the official Audio Shield and for convinience the BGA, which gives better noise output, separate MIDI and 6.35mm jacks.
Yes, an Eurorack comes directly to mind.
And thanks for the beta testing offer, I think, I'll can provide you with a beta version end of the week.
And @valis: I think, I got this Arduino stuff: Megas, Unos, Maples,Teensies, Wrroom etc.

More than me then, but it’s not a primary focus here. I’ll grab a teensy if you want to throw a beta my way too...

Yes, I'll send my GUI and Teensy DSP code (must be 3.6) to anyone, who's interested.
One set back with the original Audio-board: You can do MIDI only over USB and loose the Ability, to monitor.

I also have a Teensy 3.6 (and a 2++): What would be the best alternative to the official audio shield for Teensy 3.6?

I'm using the Blackaddr Guitar Adapter. Better sound, better flexibility and external MIDI. Availibilty is not the best though.
3.2 is nice for small programs, but not very powerful in this case. My programs use 16 sine osc and 16 envelopes and 16 multipliers internally.

Just to make it clear: this project is (at the moment) not running on Scope or Scope HW.

Here are the zips.
Harmgen.zip contains the Arduino sources, Audio.zip my change sine Generator files and Hydra-pro the GUI.

HarmGen.zip

As the GUI files are too large, send me a message witrh your email and I'll send yopu the zip via wetransfer.

Please check the Arduino files: I'm using BA Audio card. Please replace
BAAudioEffectDelayExternal BA_delayExt1;

BAAudioControlWM8731 codec;
with your Audio Card delays and codecs.
