Z170 is discontinued though, along with i7 6000 series CPUs, I.e. i7 6700k, etc.
May as well get the latest Intel since it’s really mature now.
The i3 8350k if you want a quad and any i5/i7 8000 series.

The i7 8700k is cheap now thanks to AMD.

Good the hear about the compatibility, thanks.

WOW :o ! You're right, the new i7 Coffee Lake 6-Cores are cheap now. Looks like the price has been dropped to only $339 for the 6-Core running at 3.7GHZ speed. $339 use to roughly be the price of the Quad-Cores now the 6-Cores are in the $300 price range wich is great news. The 6-Cores have gotten about a $200 price reduction. The AMD competition definitely is a good thing!

PS. Hope the next Quad-Cores see this same huge price reduction, wich I'd be surprised if they did not.

Yeah brotha’ man SoundD, 165 USD for the i3 8350k is sweet, but they’re going to need to have a 4.5GHz base speed on the 10nm Cannon Lake series.
The quads are speed demons as it is.
No extra gunk like “protection” or “turbo”, just the meat & potatoes...

FWIW Supermicro are very smart.
They never jump in with both feet until the dust settles.
The 1U motherboard for Q370 is a stripped down Audio demon.
No gaming gunk, no stinking blinking lights kids cry about.

I’m buying 2 x Quads just because I’ll have a spare that way.
I’d really like the 8700 but it’s just a waste of power for my needs.

The recent upgrades from Kontakt, u-He and PianoTeq are using less CPU cycles, as the CPUs get faster.
3.6 per Core is really all most of us need for Native synths, etc.

Happy days are here again.
BDay is next week, Scope 7 will be my gift to myself.
Can’t wait to try it out.

I suppose you have a point dawman - But the 4790 K / 7700 K still well solid and better mult-threaded but 8350 K being 150 isn't bad at all. The 8600 K with 6 cores 6 threads is only 30-40-50 $£ more with multi-threaded way better.

pu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600K-vs-Intel-Core-i3-8350K/3941vs3935

But all these CPU's are gonna work well

If you have VEP and use a slave it may not matter whether 8350 K is used or not over 8600 K

Cannon Lake may not appear till next year if the reports are correct

AN other 8 core will be released too for enthusiast platform which will make some Scope r's happy...9700 K

I can confirm the Supermicro Q370 and i7-8700k work on Scope 5.1.
My PC buddy allowed me to install Scope XITE and Bidule on his new PC.
It’s an 8.1 version but I’m convinced Win 10/Scope 7 will work so Im buying this set up.

It’s really overkill but the single core performance of an i7 8700k Core is 20% faster than my 4790k CPUs.
The main reason for an upgrade is because I beat the crap out of my PCs.
Day and night, indoor outdoor, cold and hot, etc. constant movement, etc.

I got scared on the Z170 that wouldn’t work so building spare 4790s was wise.

But I’m extremely relieved about Win 10 and Scope 7 and Q370.
It’s a perfectly rack optimized motherboard too.

If the 8700k 6-Core at 3.7GHZ is 20% faster than the 4GHZ 4790K per Core then that is very impressive speed for a 6-core. Looks like 8700k might be a leap forward over past 6-cores when looking at both price and performance. I would probably get greedy and wait another generation before upgrading to a 6-Core from 4790k if I needed to but 2 extra cores plus 20% speed increase plus more cache no doubt makes 8700k a serious beast. I know it's a serious beast cause I see the performance of my 4790k wich is impressive ATM so when adding the extra performance percentages of the 8700k and one is definitely in extreme super-power realm, especially if you work at 44khz samplerate. Overall that 8700k is a huge power gain over older quads and its low price makes it the start of something special for the Audio world. Let us know more about compatibility and your personal performance results once you upgrade and have it so that we can experience it vicariously threw you :) .

I’m figuring it’s becaue the quad i7 7700k is 20% faster and the 8700k is basically the same core as the 7700k but they refined the chipset and PCH.
The 6000 and 7000 came out so fast after each other to respond to AMD that very little maturity occurred.
6000 are discontinued now too.
My sons i7 7700k is running 100% now for 2 years.
Q370 and C246 chips seem to be refined.

I think less cores is faster almost always unless the single-core speed of the processor w/ more cores is speced significantly higher.
There´s a lot of CPU cycles needed synchronizing many cores, so those cycles aren´t available for the other tasks.
