PCIE to PCIE adapter

Post by FernandoHood »

Hi everyone, Iam a new member here and new Scope user, been reading and watching the forums for a few months, even bought a few cards too :) decided to finally write something! and "give a lil' something back" to the community!
So recently I tried using a PCIE to PCI adapter, this one-> http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-expres ... 29855.html
Initially read some mixed reactions, mainly from UAD card users and M-audio Delta users that were using this adapter! Worked for some, did not work for others... :-?
Decided to give it a try myself, and I have to say iam quite surprised that it actually worked, tried on two different computers ( with WIN7 64bit ) one is a older generation i7 on a ASUS PT6e MOBO, another a newer generation i7 4790k on a MSI Gaming3, tried with a Pulsar and a smaller 3dsp lunar2 everything worked fine, however, I find the build quality of the adapter to be quite cheap...the connection from the adapter to the PCIE itself is a bit wobbly... :o and that was the reason I tried with a older computer first! hard to recommend, but worked, its the only way right now i can have 3 cards together in one system.

Have you had any experiences with these kind of adapters? what worked or did not work for you? Curious to find out :)

how did you manage the mounting ? that kind of adapter is for half hight cards only ...
I've had one of those myself in an oversize case and left the card 'wobbling'
most important matter of fact: it did not change one bit in PCI performance
(my test system back then was Sandy Bridge based, known for it's really bad PCI bridging)

now there are boards with decent PCI performance again, so there's few need for such a device
except (as you mention) to add a 3rd board - that would be a nice find indeed

cheers, Tom

" that kind of adapter is for half hight cards only ..." Good point, i actually have a taller pulsar card! i can try with it too and post pics or something, good idea, kinda forgot to test that!

well everything fits, its wobbly mainly because the PCIE connector on the adapter is small one, a mini-PCIE + i also had to unscrew the side metal bracket so they would fit, so right now cant properly screw the adapter tightly to the computer. but its fine, :P
