Roland DEP-5 Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
Roland DEP-5 Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
Guys with cards might no get the same fidelity, but on the XITE-1 using a Ferrofish MKII this incredible sounding 8 bit hardware unit can be had for 100 bucks.
I liked it so much I got 2 of them.
So Thanks GaryB as I always can trust your ears and opinion.

Don't just listen to the first snippets, make sure to hear the hard gate for drums, chorus, so many great sounds.

Re: Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
yep, those are nice.
Re: Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
Also a great hardware unit to run with Scope DSP Modular FX, and the above mentioned is the Vocalist 5 Live.
Used for 200 USD, and I can hold down certain noted on my QuNexus so that a back up singer can sing 3 part harmony and the pitch FX are incredible.
200 USD used at Guitar Center or ebay.
All together I have 2 x DEP-5s now and 2 x VPL 5s, then recent great Modular FX from jhulk like the Equinox Phaser and MCCYs Flu-Liq.
The S|C 31 Band Graphic w/ SpaceF Filters for killer Lo-Fi, and his AUX Delay.
I have never played in a group where the drums and vocals had such kick ass FX.
Thank You God, and GaryB, Holger and Jurgen, SpaceF, Assaf Dar, Faxinadu, jhulk, RoyT, MCCY, Sharc and other dieties I might have missed.
I don't make shit for money anymore and don't even give a fuck...

I was frantically Googling for a $100 8-bit Ferrofish, when I eventually realised you were talking about the Roland DEP-5. Might have been nice to mention that in the OP.

Re: Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
As are the 12Bit Roland SDE-2000 mono digital delay (2 make an excellent stereo-chorus for the Rhodes w/ separate LFOs, mod-depth and delay times), the BOSS CE-300 Chorus Ensemble as well as the SDD320 "Dimension D" ...garyb wrote:yep, those are nice.
I had ´em all and we also worked w/ a friend´s DEP-5 which we liked very much too in the past.
There are a lot of hardware pieces out there from the past, tech-wise today we´d say "lo-fi", but they sound very good.

hmm... i have the DEP5 at the moment and find it pretty crappy.... what is it you like about it, maybe i didn't give it a big enough chance, was actually gonna make a video review killing it heheh.
i find any plugin chorus-reverb combo does a much better job.

Re: Roland DEP-5 Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
don't want to spoil prices - but this unit has a gorgeous color in it's sound
cannot be faked by any modern device, pretty unique
cheers, Tom

Re: Roland DEP-5 Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
I still regret I sold mine long time ago.
Maybe it's not suited for heavy long dense reverb tails like often used in Psy, but as a creative tool it's terrific.
I remember those long fast delay lines slowly twirling around in stereo from single ticks on a cymbal's bell...

Re: Roland DEP-5 Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
If you like hardware check out a TC Fireworx if you get a chance.
It is a real treat with an XITE-1 using 48k ADAT.
DEP-5s have been delegated to spares.
Once I heard the Fireworx using ADAT it was an easy decision.
Re: Roland DEP-5 Hardware w/ Scope XITE-1
The algorithm block diagram on Fireworx LCD is similar to that of the Digitech 2112 from the same era but 2 years earlier. A bad ass unit sporting a pair of 12AX7 tubes as well as a solid state signal path.
The 90's signal flow diagrams on LCD a great leap forward from the one liner squint-o-screens of the 80's QX1's and DX7's etc.
