Well, I hope he´s still part of the team because I understood he´s the main coder for SCOPE 6.

Looks like he's moved on to more rhythmic pastures... Do you think he might be willing to post his code on github before abandoning it? Parseq did sound interesting...

Main coder for Parseq - I would have though Holger main coder for Scope6.

I wonder if Julians drum machine does good dubstep? For that matter, does the Zarg red drum do good dubstep (wobbly basses etc) ? Im looking for an alternative to Arturia Spark Dubstep.

you don't need nothing of specific to make dubstep.
Just use your knowledge to make the noises.

Well I don't have any dubstep knowledge really. Plus, these drum machines facilitate certain patterns from thier user interface. The music (genre) becomes somewhat 'shaped' by the interface, you know, like techno came from the TR808, TB303 etc etc.

Thats what I want to do - be steered/guided by the interface to see what comes out. There are a number of Korg toys (KAOS etc) on the iPad for around $20 - $30 but the problem is the iPad only has stereo output, so cant import and mix multitrack into DAW.

my suggestion is, first listen as many tunes as you can and once you become familiar with the sound, you'll be able to create the sounds from scratch, because you have synthesis knowledge.

Wobble bass, is based on filter modulated waveforms, you need the metrics, the modulation and the right sounds, for bass sounds i prefer do it with modular or with solaris, for drumlines, the rd drum can be useful and easy to manage.

You can find some useful tips on websites like this, it's based on NI Massive, but you can just watch the concepts and do it with scope or other hardware.

I quote Gary from a older post I remembered:
"there's no "team" working on v6, it's mainly the excellent Julian."
It´s 1st line in this post:

Well, then I order the BudStep machine - but before I do, does your bass wobble ?

NB I find it hard to believe if Julian is doing ALL the code for ParseQ and MOST of the code for Scope6 - that we will see anything this decade :o :o

You beat me w/ this post,- the newsletter came in here yesterday already.

Well, Julian is very busy releasing Dub-Step drum box and an additive synth ...

(hmm,- just kidding ...)

Bud

P.S.:

B.t.w.,- I find that Phead additive synth for Reason interesting,- in general.

wobble bases are best made with

additive osc and wavetable osc

and dual filters now the lfo beat tempo synced lfo that track the tempo clock are best as they keep in time with the tracks tempo

and so when you do divisions of 1 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 1/32 in real time they are synced to tempo

no the lfo also moves the wavetables as in massive so the spectrum changes also

now the lfo modulates the filter cutoff for wah/wah fx types

so with waldorf osc and bc modular additive osc as a dual osc synth and 2 filter a low pass and a band pass you should be able to get the types of wobble bass your after but it also does great leads and pads

Some of the GUI elements on that 'Spectral' look like something from VOID2.

And the sound of it in the Dubstep example is the sort of sound Ive been after in a wobble bass, as it has that vocoder formant type of sound. So would the waldorf osc and bc modular additive osc sound be like that - a vocoder formant sort of wobble ?

Like a tough guy speaking wobble bass - telling you you better watch out coz something serious is happening like a terminator coming to get you.

if you want the vocoder type then your going to hAve to use a vocal filter that can modualate between vowels

being in modular you can do that in ni razor synth there is a vocal format filter with 3 banks of fomant filters in it each one can use any of the vowels and then the wobble lfo uses res so that it changes you can get some very vocal sounds synths sounding like there talking

set it up as 2 osc 1 wavescanning osc so thats the waldorf as thats the only one available at the moment and bc modular additive osc

now if you create a switch matrix up and have a few filters that can be switched in or out

and a vca 2 envelopes 2 lfo they need to be tempo based there are some good ones in flexor

and then you need to add modulation matrix so you can set the lfo envelopes and modwheel aftertouch and all controlers so they can effect each module

you can use bc modular rangers

ill have a look at making a version of it and then you can add your own bells and whistles to it

Yeah that would be great, I could use it as a basis for some dubstep tracks and also in the next Scoperise update of BC stuff.

great info about dubstep technics (indeed), but me too would like to know what's going on in respect to Parseq (if anything is going anyway anywhere).
