Post by bebecrystal »

hi i need help figuring how to modulate panning of audio in modular with an lfo, how would i go about doing this?
thanks

You can't, unless you assign the PAN knob to MIDI, then modulate via a MIDI CC message. But that might not work out too well.

You can also try to find a device that provides the modulated panning function you want, as an insert effect, and just leave the mixer's pan on center.

trying to make this effect in my head that think would sound pretty cool, where i could modulate the panning and a filter of a modular lead on the same sine lfo, so the sound would hard pan and filter modulate in sync, ne ideas on achieving this or no possible?
thanks

How many channels do you want to modulate the LFO/filter on?

If it's just one, you can put a Modular (2, III, IV, whatever you have) in the audio stream on a bus, aux channel, or before the mixer.

Then add in that Modular an LFO that drives a filter and pan at the same time. Any way you want it to :) It could even use an envelope filter instead of an LFO.

Couldn't you just have two VCAs, modulated by the same LFO, with an inverter before the second? Output of one goes to the left output channel and the other goes right. Am I over-simplifying?

is this what u meant?guesing not since only getting sound on one side and not sure if that gate inverter is what u were talking about, sorry im a noob to modular

See here: http://www.cwmodular.org/html/mix_modifier.html

I think you need an Inverter for one channel and a Bipolar2unipolar on both modulation signals. If you get stuck, I'll try to mock something up tonight

Sorry, also just spotted a problem in the routing too. So I think it should go something like this (I'm assuming you're passing a mono signal in):

Mono portion (start)
Audio signal path: Audio in 1 -> Filter
Filter modulation path: Sine LFO -> CFm1 of Filter

L Channel:
Audio signal path: Filter -> VCA 1 -> Audio Out 1
Amp modulation path: Sine LFO -> Bipolar2unipolar -> Mod of VCA 1

R Channel:
Audio signal path: Filter -> VCA 2 -> Audio Out 2
Amp modulation path: Sine LFO -> Inverter -> Bipolar2unipolar -> Mod of VCA 2

hi and sorry for being a bit late.
for pan modulation of stereo signals I made a module some years ago. it's called pan2to2.
