How much is a Pulsar 2 worth these days?

Post by DevonB »

I've had my Pulsar II card for many years. These days though, it mostly sits in a PC that hardly gets turned on anymore, and has barely been used in the last 8 years. I have the latest Scope v7 software for it, or original box, the breakout cable, and the 6DSP PCI card. About how much do these go for these days?

I've seen them going for a lot of different prizes. There's one on offer in Holland right now (with Scope 4.0) where the highest bid is € 80.
Recently I was able to buy a Pulsar 2 for € 25.... Also with scope 4.
This seems to be really cheap, but I was the highest bidder anyway.

On this forum I recently scored a SRB 15 dsp for € 300 - which was dead on arrival. According to posts on this forum it should be working fine once I the capacitators are replaced...

On the other hand, there is a Pulsar 2 on offer with a starting price of € 500 for month now, where nothing seems to be happening. And on Ebay they are sometimes offered for a bit under € 200, and not being sold.

I've read somewhere that a reasonable price would be around € 25 per dsp - but in fact if you love the system, the cards are priceless - so in the end it depends on the eagerness of the buyer, I would say.

Thanks for the feedback. The v7 software is more expensive than the card prices you quoted, but if it goes up for auction and not many people are watching, it is what it is. Sad to see that I paid $1200 back in the day, and how much they go for now. Great card, just not much a part of my workflow anymore.

I got mine 2011 15dsp for 500€ with 5.1. No additional Plugins. And one 2017 with many additional plugs for 700. It depends on the pluggs equipped. 5.1 does not mean that you have to Upgrade, but 4.x forces you to update, and this is additional costs.
 out and about for music production. Are you still configguring your Studio  music first!

I sold my set for 350€ (or around that, not 100% sure...).

This set had 2 Pulsar 2 (6DSPs each), 1 Pulsar SRB (6DSPs) and 1 Pulsar I (4 DSPs), plus the cables to get them working together, as well as quite some documents and CDs, and even original packaging.
In terms of OS, they were still at 4.

I think it was a really good price, but I didn't really have a computer to run them (still don't), which also meant I couldn't test them (despite they worked just fine before storing them) and there was some risk (I felt it was minimal, but I can understand people not being too confident because of that...).

Still, I was asking for more than that before and they didn't sell, despite when I put my last price I ended up having more than one person interested in them...

I would say at least 100€ would be fair for a Creamware Pulsar II, judging by my sale, despite personally I would put the value more to around 150€ each.
The thing is, I don't think you have that many people still wanting these boards, so if you look at auctions, I think it shouldn't be too surprising to find lower prices...
But if the seller isn't really desperate to just get rid of it, I don't think you can complain if he asks around the values I mentioned, or even a bit higher.

I agree. Picked up a Pulsar II and SRB today, both 6 DSP, for a total of 150 euro. The auction had been on for months with no bids. The one on offer In Holland (Pulsar II) has still the highest bid at euro 80. All of those without plug-ins, of course. So there seems to be not a lot of interest. The four cards I scored these last few months I was the only one interested.

Hi ChitJyoti,

If you don't want the dutch auction, I'm desperate for a 3rd card and here in Spain not having any luck whatsoever.

Kind regards,
