Any SH-101 and/or Crumar clones in the Scope universe?
Any SH-101 and/or Crumar clones in the Scope universe?
Title says it all.

SH-101?
Blue Synth....
Blue Synth....

YES I Love the blue Synth!
out and about for music production. Are you still configguring your Studio music first!

For the SH-101, you can buy the scope clone from Wolfgang Steckenleiter:
http://www.steckenleiter.de/
Demo: http://www.exquisa2.de/Rabarber/SEITEN/Sh101_pre.htm
I basically emailed him, paypal some money, and he'll email you the device. The device worked fine on Scope 5.1 - 32bit edition.
The save presets was in the old style, but still worked fine.
Sound wise: I don't have a real one to compare with. It sounded fine and was a fun little synth.
You may be better off with the Roland VST or TAL's VST version.
But supporting the Scope community is always nice.

Interesting. I hadn't realized BlueSynth was an sh-101 clone. I'm looking specifically because I heard some discussions that Boards of Canada use the SH-101 and Crumar to get a lot of their tones. I like BlueSynth too but have never quite gotten the sounds to that BoC place. Maybe I need to do another pass at it this weekend. How does Wolfgang Steckenleiter's version compare?

Different synth, but same vein...Look for the Catsynth (C4T) around this forum. Great monosynth emulation from the same era. I mean GREAT monosynth.

the real sh101 has an AMAZING liquid sound on one hand and very raw on the other hand. haven't heard an emulation that is close as far as the pure tone BUT you surely don't need an sh101 for BOC type sounds. just really simplify your synthesis, go for purer tones, solid sounds. one osc - one filter simple modulations easy on the effects. the tone itself is the trick not the complexity.

Because the Saturn is not an sh 101 clone.
Re: Any SH-101 and/or Crumar clones in the Scope universe?
yes true but if he is looking for BOCish sounds the Saturn is not a bad place to start actually. unkown007 i would look at too. pro tone. maybe minimax to an extent. also our own ocean core (the mini of the storm), pi super-mini (one of the 2525 minis) and the os10-20 perhaps, and even simpler like the th3 acid/beast. cz oscs in modular are a good place to go for that too imo.

for the crumar, not on scope but maybe the waldorf streichfett is a good place to start. decent and affordable and has "that tone" of strings of early tech-idm-ambient.

just a note ...faxinadu wrote:the real sh101 has an AMAZING liquid sound on one hand and very raw on the other hand. haven't heard an emulation that is close
SH-101, MC202 microcomposer, Juno 6, Juno 60, Jupiter 6, Jupiter 8, JX3P and MKS80 rev.4, they all share the same 24dB LP filter design.
4 OTA stages being integrated in the custom Roland IR 3109 IC chip.
The SH101 is really a toy and I don´t undertsand why it now should be essential for some style of music.
It´s hard finding something native offering that core sound,- uHe Diva maybe,- but the quality and very painstakingly modelled native stuff is soooo CPU hungry.
In SCOPE we have YouKnow7, but it doesn´t sound like the Juno-6.
Like it is w/ most "emulations" out there, it´s more about the GUI and functionality.
OTOH, I don´t care so much ´cause when making music, I get all the sounds I want from what I own and many of ´em come from CW/ S|C stock synths like Minimax, Profit5, ProTone and the "optional" Prodyssey,- at least when it comes to subtractive synthesis.
I´d appreciate some real Roland and Oberheim architecture and sound for SCOPE XITE, but then it should be some flagship like Jupiter-8 and/or a SEM stackable in a shell allowing different configurations from monophonic, 2-voice up to 8-voice (depending on available DSPs) incl. unison, the shell incl. the output/pan module, mini-sequencer, global controls and preset management.
The SEM would be usable in Modular too, using all the internal re-patch points the original offered for the skilled user.
It only makes sense WHEN it sounds like the real thing and not only looks like.
So, at least the filter design and shape of envelope time segments should be modelled exactly, some other components too,- oberheimish behaviour of polyphonic portamento - and voice assignment modes p.ex..
But I think we can only dream of because all the DSP programming has it´s limits, may it be for SCOPE and SHARCs or native code and Intel CPUs.
The real thing, as long it works flawlessly, still seems to be the best solution.

Ages ago I made a clone of my Crumar DS-2 with the Modular: http://www.planetz.com/Pulsar/files/mod ... -2_1.2.zip
Here some audio examples: http://www.planetz.com/Pulsar/files/mod ... ropout.mp3
(don't forget to connect all the 4 outputs! to the mixer!)

4PC + Scope 5.0 + no more Xite + 2xScope Pro + 6xPulsarII + 2xLunaII + SDK + a lot of devices (Flexor III & Solaris 4.1 etc.) + Plugiator.

The Acid bundle definitely has some good core tones along these lines. The part I've been struggling with is getting that pitch drift that they do so well. A lot of the SFP synths have LFO controllable pitch adjustment, but it never feels quite right. I wonder if they just do that stuff by hand.faxinadu wrote:yes true but if he is looking for BOCish sounds the Saturn is not a bad place to start actually. unkown007 i would look at too. pro tone. maybe minimax to an extent. also our own ocean core (the mini of the storm), pi super-mini (one of the 2525 minis) and the os10-20 perhaps, and even simpler like the th3 acid/beast. cz oscs in modular are a good place to go for that too imo.
Saturn is a great synth. I have to check if I still have a copy somewhere. Does it even works on the latest version of Scope? On XITE-1? I'm hoping to make the leap later this year.
I think the long and short is that I'm going to have to start getting into the Scope Modular platform this year so I can get the tone just so. I've put it off long enough.
Faxi, I have all your modular tutorials at the ready, but are there any other external references you might recommend?
Thanks everyone for your feedback and recommendations?
